blah blah people can spend their money on whatever they want but it disgusts me that so many people so easily threw money at this, yet many, actually worthy, causes get absolutely nothing.

Do you go around getting pissed off at people buying stuff from Starbucks and McDonalds every day or something?

They're spending money so:
A) They can get tangible products in the near future.
B) They can get a different product in the far future.

It's fucking supply and demand, that's the basis of our entire economy. What are you so bent out of shape for?

Meanwhile, the Lakota didn't even get half of what they needed to buy their sacred lands from auction. So that we can have EVEN MORE housing developments as if we don't have enough!!!

did you donate to the lakota?

Yes, actually.

Re: DA

they were using one of the most illegit fundraising websites ever. that's the main reason i didn't donate.

It's like expecting to funnel the billions of dollars that go into the cosmetics industry (something which is, by definition, worthless outside of providing satisfaction) into making missiles for the Coast Guard. Money doesn't work like that.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
...the Coast Guard has missiles?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought they would? Quick check shows that at least one Coast Guard ship is equipped with missiles...

You know what, I'm gonna go with "armaments" if that makes the analogy smoother.

You're not comparing donations to donations. You're comparing purchases to donations. Go picket outside theaters playing Avengers bawwww people bought a ticket when the Lakota didn't reach their goal. Go cry next time someone buys a shiny new video game. It would at least be time better spent than hating on an independent artist getting a small fraction of what a lot of big budget games will make.

FYI I gave money to Hussie to buy the game and I also happen to donate a fuckton of my own money to charity regularly, I just don't go around advertising it. Your concern trolling is deeply obnoxious.

If you seriously think Hussie will make a big budget game, you're a moron. All this Hussie whiteknighting is stupid.

You have no sense of scale, do you. There are, in fact, categories of game budget in between "blockbuster production from major company" and "free online flash shit made by a dude in his basement."

Oh my god, no, that's not how it works. This is a donation with an incentive attached. It's like saying you sold your blood just because you happened to get a movie voucher out of it. (And yes, there have been blood drives I've seen that gave movie tickets and vouchers for donating that day.)

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
...I've always considered it selling blood. You get doughnuts out of it!

No, in all seriousness, the line can get blurry with Kickstarters. For example, one very successful Kickstarter is for this homemade hot sauce business to get off the ground. The primary incentive is a free bottle of, what do you know, the hot sauce that you're helping to make. Tens of thousands of dollars past the initial goal of starting the business, and you start to get the feeling that people are just buying hot sauce.

I saw it as a $15 pre-order.

Re: +everything

(Anonymous) 2012-09-11 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Try and qualify it whatever way you want - I'm giving up something to get something. That's supply and demand.

Re: +everything

(Anonymous) 2012-09-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm getting a game I'd probably be willing to buy for $30 for $15. So...no, it's a purchase. I didn't give Hussie blood that will help with a need completely unrelated to what I'm getting out of it, I gave him $15 to make the thing I want to buy with that $15.

So basically it's just like Girl Scout cookies. I'm donating to the Girl Scouts, in exchange I get delicious cookies.

Are you hating on Girl Scout cookies, anon?
