This is a legit question. How should the mods address it? I have no idea if she's getting these threads via her HMD or private message or what but if it's all anonymous and she doesn't know who is doing it, how would the mods? How could they know it's even someone in the game?

I'd definitely guess it's someone who has a grudge against her from the game but what can the mods do except making an announcement that harassment is not acceptable and anyone caught doing it will be banned? I already thought that was kind of implied.

Yeah, it's implied in every game, I'm sure, but the thing is I still really think it should be addressed. Even if it's just to say hey this is fucked up and not okay cut this shit out it's more a matter of acknowledging it instead of saying 'well, people should realize it's not okay' and sweeping it aside because there's nothing they can do against anon.

I absolutely don't want or expect them to run around pointing fingers, of course not. It's not like they can catch the person and take them to RP court or something.

If they addressed it to the game it might make more people come forward if they have this happen to them. Maybe we can get this fucker caught. But if they feel like they're going to be called a liar for it, why would they?

The mods need to address this because it's their game, their responsibility, and they should care. It's their job to make players feel comfortable in the game and safe coming to them. Whether or not this person can even be caught isn't relevant. I hope they are, but even then, being banned from an rp game oh no. In the end, they're obviously a shit-eating sicko and I don't think it's going to matter to them.

Anonymity and an audience turns normal people into fucking idiot psychopaths. There is literally nothing the mods can do, except give whoever is doing this more attention to masturbate to.

They could spin this into a unifying experience for the game if they handle it right.

It doesn't have to be a witchhunt. But having it addressed would make people more comfortable and reassured that the mods have their backs and won't allow this behavior and will take them seriously if they are also harassed.

Instead, we have silent mods and wankgate behaving the way it is right now toward someone who was chased out of a game. That's not a comfortable game environment, so I hope they address it soon.

They "won't allow it"? There's nothing they can do about it anon. I agree that bullying is shitty. I mean, I guess the mods could make a post to the ooc comm saying "Don't bully people, if we catch you bullying we'll kick you out," but hopefully that should go without saying.

While most people took it seriously, some didn't. Even if the mods can't do anything, I hope they make it clear that THEY take it seriously. So if someone else has this happen to them, they will feel comfortable coming to the mods and letting them know, even if they don't let the game in on it.

Yes, exactly. This sort of thing is gross as fuck. Of course we understand that the mods can't magically fix it or really do much about it-- but what they can do is tell their playerbase that they are firmly against this sort of thing and that their players can feel comfortable coming to them for support, whether it's about bullying or conflict between players or other stuff.

Just because they can't catch the person doesn't mean they should ignore it because 'there's nothing they can do.' They can be supportive and be the community leaders they signed up to be.

Seriously? Your shockingly witty response has suddenly enlightened me to the fact that obviously the only person who could possibly be disgusted by this situation has to be the victim herself.

I can assure you I'm not Sara, I've barely even tagged with her, but I am a player in the game, and I'm actually very uncomfortable with the idea of silence from the mods and the general attitude many people seem to have of ignoring that a player was terrorized out of our game because she was annoying. wg is hard to judge by though. we're all a bunch of assholes to begin with.

My assumption that the mods are quiet for now is because they're discussing it. I went to the Mod HMD not only with my concerns, but some suggestions about future polling and minimalizing harassment.

They got right back to me saying they're working things out. I figure that once they've come to an agreement they'll make a general announcement.

Yeah, I understand that. I didn't mean I expected them to immediately have some sort of announcement. The mods need time, of course, and it's not the only thing they have going on in their lives.

What I was saying is that all those people claiming they shouldn't bother because there's already a rule buried somewhere in the info post are assholes. I'm not blaming the mods for anything, just admitting that if it ended up being ignored, I'd be very uncomfortable with the attitudes in this game.

Hey! Just popping in to say, we're definitely not ignoring it. Nothing of this nature should ever go ignored. At the moment we've got one of us out of town visiting family, and my daughter's birthday was yesterday so it had me largely out of commission. We've been a little scattered ourselves, but we're pulling together today.

We're working on addressing it as we speak. We definitely want our players to feel safe and comfortable, so this entire situation is very, very not cool. We should have a post up re: everything sometime soon.
