the problem with the word "headcanon" is people not understanding what it means at this point

if it's directly contradicting something already established in canon then it's not a headcanon, it's arrogant

which makes this whole tumblr deal so much worse

This. Headcanon is supposed to fill in the blanks about characters that canon hasn't provided, not contradict what is explicitly canon.

I think a lot of people on tumblr are just using "headcanon" in this argument to try and pacify the other side. Like the difference between "Chihiro is canon cis" and "My headcanon is that Chihiro is cismale" is all the difference you need to avoid getting shit all over.

i know this part does happen, but the other side is too eager to attack others, while at the same time wanting to headcanon characters as gay or bi. if you want to go with different cultural context in japan, a lot of the subtext isn't subtext either.
