They're probably not taking pity on you, they're making sure you know the correct information even if your character's ignorant/lying. Because you might be making IC mistakes on purpose, but those five players over there piss themselves in indignant fury any time it turns out their precious babbu was wrong about something, and it's easier to deal with that shit when you can point out where exactly they were already given the right info.

i'd rather look concerned by checking you know this shit than look like an asshole for that one time my character corrects an ooc mistake

It's nice that these days, we automatically assume the other player is an idiot who can't comprehend a single paragraph of information.

Says a lot about RP as a whole.
