why is this fandom full of bandwagoners

Because it's a fad canon and those are, by nature, hella bandwagony.

I guarantee this fandom won't have much in the way of staying power after the thing ends. Maybe it'll spike up a bit for the game, but after that, it'll probably be a no-man's land. Too full of ADD riddled types to sustain itself once the momentum of regular updates is gone.

idk my character has been irrelevant for two years now and i'm still playing them. but i acknowledge that i'm a rare case in the playerbase.

same here. then again i have actually lost interest in homestuck entirely and am playing from it now more for my established cr and in-game development than anything else. which isn't to say i'm not still having fun doing it, but i only read updates now when they're relevant to my character, which is thankfully never.

My guess? The fact that a huge chunk of the fandom is around high school aged. They're not the most dignified or focused years for anyone.

Almost all the Homestucks I see in all the related tumblr tags or making asses of themselves at conventions or generally being an enormous, inescapable presence are in highschool.
