The grating part about Masaomi isn't that he's learning new abilties. It's that he is literally learning to be a ninja or soldier or pokemon trainer or whatever the flavor of the week is with less difficulty than the pokemon kids that grew up with their pikachus and the ninjas that went to ninja school when they were little kids. He's getting better than them faster than them when they're basically the cream of the crop in their respective series.

Charles seems to think that Masaomi is this almighty amazing guy that's getting stronger and stronger and will eventually be able to beat up everybody because he's the best. He forces "Look at how awesome he is!" into his threads and it's awkward and stilted. It might not be the OP that original anon was looking for but it's definitely power playing.

Bonus points because Masaomi is actually really messed up and creepy and he still projects onto him and has the audacity to justify some of his awful behavior.

Like punching Shikamaru when Shikamaru was in a hospital bed.

Bro. Hitting people that are hospitalized isn't cool, it isn't cool quit trying to justify that shit.

It's my pet theory that Charles has a fetish for punching people that are hospitalized, at the very least he had Haruhi do it once before as well.

I decided against joining one of the casts he plays in because Charles in general seems kind of off-putting, tbh. Like he focuses only on power power power in all of his characters.

he also seems to ship push a bit which is the part i find more off putting

Good idea. He's absolutely far from the worst person out there, but he can be a headache to deal with.

Could you elaborate on him taking to the ninja training too fast, anon? OOC, I am the one in charge of the progression of Masaomi's ninja training and what exactly he learns. As such, criticism for this is best directed at me.

I don't think we've been going too fast at all. I think you might be underestimating how long Shikamaru has been teaching him (February 2012) and how many skills Masaomi's since picked up with training (four, only two of which he has much competence with). If you disagree, however, I would like to hear your thoughts regarding it. This is an easy project for me, but one I get excited about, so it's entirely possible I've pushed things along too quickly.

Let me put it this way: how is Masaomi able to adapt to all of these things all at the same time? Even if he's getting more proficient than the layman, he shouldn't be keeping up with the canon characters even somewhat because he's split his focus between ninja training and pokemon training and working out and all of the other things he does. Neither is native to his world/even remotely parallel to his way of life, he's learning in lulls of convenience depending on the other characters due to Luceti's environment, he hasn't been training for years AND he's doing the ninja thing AND the pokemon thing AND everything else at the same time.

I didn't even realize how little he knows because his OOC prose focuses intently on how strong, prepared, and unfazed he is.
