Pacific Rim

It's bad enough with the 63s all over memes, but what the hell is with all the humanized jaegers? How do you even give them a personality? How are they jaegers when they're PEOPLE?

Sorry, it's stupid.

Personifying machines is older than Pacific Rim and not just limited to mecha. Japan in particular has Gundam girls, ship girls, aircraft girls, etc.

yes but people are not roleplaying mecha musume

But they at least retain some physical characteristics of the machine it's based on and usually incorporate some facts about what they're based on into their personality. From what I've seen a lot of the jaeger personifications are just "oh this robot is human now."

I've seen a couple on DM that I couldn't even figure out which jaegar they were.

Okay, that is stupid as hell. I thought they just RP jaegirls/mecha musume.

i mean the movie says that the mind of the pilots meld with the machine. so as far as personality goes for the humanoid jaeger you could always say that it's a mix of the pilots personalities, the right hemisphere pilot more so than the left since they're the dominant pilot. also you could take the description of the jaeger into account. like pentecost calls cherno alpha 'a brutal war machine', so you know they'd have a tough or somewhat hardened aspect to their personality.

people are gonna do what they want even if it's stupid so *shrugs*

It would be great if people actually did that!

But they don't. There was one on DM just today that seemed to have no canon info aside from where it was stationed and the pilots' names.

that i'm used to by now, after star trek fandom in 09

what gets me is characters that aren't from the movie/are from expanded universe material (or whatever you want to call it) that have no info or links to info anywhere on their journal

how the fuck do i know who luna pentacost is and why would i ever assume she isn't just some au, fandom oc, or rule 63

i hate when people joke they have too many muses

because they do have too many muses

and having too many muses just makes me think someone is a flake who just wants to own all the pretties and show off

when you see a username as inspired as hhhherc you know they're totally committed to playing that character instead of just wanting to have an account for the pretties

why would anyone need 3 accounts for gipsy danger?

"((ooc: account used interchangeably with [personal profile] boatsword))"

make that 4
