you weren't having a discussion. you were trying to explain away the rape imagery in KlK as excusable. you were basically talking over everyone who is uncomfortable with this series in the same breath you were facetiously claiming to be okay with people's discomfort.

here's a little tip for the future: if you think about defending the presence of rape imagery in something when it's OBVIOUSLY stirring a lot of controversy? Just don't. Especially if you claim to respect people's discomfort with it.

am i allowed to not give a single shit about rape imagery?

Not around here, nope.

But I don't either, so you're not alone. I watch media to be entertained, not pick it apart for SJW bonus points. Apparently this makes me part of the minority.

i don't give a shit about rape imagery either. i give a shit about rape itself in media, not just something that's meant to evoke the idea of it.

that's fine. you can not give a shit. but it's a really stupid idea to sit there and defend it in an obviously controversial topic, especially when you may or may not be talking with victims.

how do you know that the person that's okay with it isn't a victim? I was molested as a kid but the show itself doesn't bother me. (I don't really like it, either, but it's not because of the suit scene, I'm just not interested in the characters or the plot.)

this might not be what you meant, but I'm sort of irritated when people assume that everyone that has been the victim of some sort of sexual assault will all take offense at one thing or the other. some do, some don't.

no, you're right, but you'd also expect a victim to also understand that doing what this anon did is still a dumb idea.

they're perfectly entitled to their opinions and interests, but there is a time and a place for everything and they got both wrong.

I don't know how you talk over somebody in text but okay.

And understanding why people might be uncomfortable with a show doesn't mean I don't get to have my own thoughts on it and speak my mind. Sorry, but that's now how things work.

Like I said in a different post, I wasn't thinking of the thing as "rape imagery" but now that people have pointed it out I can see that point of view. I'm not saying that people who are uncomfortable with it are wrong, or shouldn't say so, quite the opposite. All I did was say what I thought the show was trying to get across, that's all. I didn't say anything negative about anybody who disliked the show, nor did I even mention rape imagery. Those are your words, not mine.

In fact, you know what? Thinking about it, I admit that the scene in episode one could have been done a different and better way. But I'm still gonna watch the show because I enjoy the metaphor and the action and humor in it and I think Ryuko is awesome as fuck, regardless of what costume they shove her in.

here are things no one has told you not to do:

1) watch the show
2) enjoy the show
3) interpret the show however you want/have your own opinions and thoughts

no one here has oppressed your actions or thoughts. stop acting like they have.

people just told you not to argue in favor of rape imagery and rape culture. You can share those oh so important opinions of yours elsewhere, but doing it here, where people are obviously on edge and where victims will see your disregard for their feelings (you can say you understand and care all you want, but if you did, you wouldn't waste your time arguing with them when they obviously aren't interested in having one).

it is OKAY to watch and enjoy the show and have feelings about it. no one took that away from you so you can stop acting like a victim. It was just stupid to argue in favor of the rapey as fuck canon to people not interested at all in hearing your argument.
