except the criticism was never about the character but about the rl connotations of that scene and how it's handled

i read them and what i saw was people trivializing a male character who had been raped for feeling fucking awful because apparently only the female victim's feelings matter

it sounds like her situation was really shittily handled and there's no excuse for that but there's not an excuse to insinuate his situation somehow doesn't matter because of ~real life circumstances~ that aren't actually relateable to this situation, since people aren't possessed or controlled by other entities in real life

nice try though, and for the record it might be best to not sa yourself while accusing other people of doing it

actually sa-ing this time to clarify that when i say trivializing a male character i'm referring to

So not only do we have the age-old "girl gets raped to give a dude character development and we focus on his poor feelings about it", it's THE RAPIST HIMSELF who gets those oh-you-poor-dear points.

It's a way for the series to have a shocking moment but have it not be the ~~poor woobie male self-insert character~~ do something deplorable. It's a way for a rapist to go "but it's NOT REALLY my fault!"

this is trivializing the experience of a male victim by a. accusing him of actively participating in a rape (which he didn't, as we already established, he was possessed by another living and thinking entity) and b. using condescending terms to refer to his feelings about the situation, which given the circumstances are completely valid considering he was also a victim of rape in this case

if this guy had been an active participant then i'd want his head on a pike but as it is you're trying really hard to insinuate it's not okay for him to have a reaction to getting raped

yes let's not complain about writers who make a story where the character doing the physical act of rape isn't responsible for it because of space wizards

that might hurt the fictional character's feelings

i agree it's an absolutely shitty move on all accounts and i don't know what the fuck the writers were thinking but everyone throwing a rape victim, even if he's fictional, under the bus for being raped and getting upset about it is kind of
