didn't that happen in one of his other series too? a gay guy marries a woman and is glad he's able to have joyless, dutiful sex with her for procreation?
no. he was never able to love her romantically, but he was one of the something like six humans left period and if they didn't produce offspring then humanity would never be able to repopulate the earth.
the book series itself is billed as a scifi retelling of the the book of mormon, i really don't know why anyone is surprised by that.
