stop +1ing yourself and accept the fact that listing a means of contact that only a handful of people can use as the primary way to contact you goes above and beyond the call of moronic
there's so much projecting happening in this stupid thread. If you list plurk as a contact and don't have PPs enabled to all users you're a dumbfuck, sorry to say.
There's a 100% chance everyone crying 'just PM them!' is the sort of person that lists a friends-only plurk or an AIM name they never use as a contact method.
And, of course, doesn't see why this makes them dumber than a stack of bricks.
There's a 100% chance that everyone freaking out about people disabling pps from accounts not friended doesn't get that a contact method list doesn't mean that every method has to be available to every person. If you can pm or use AIM, you don't need to pp. Some people list plurk as a contact method meaning that they'd prefer to plot there WITH people they have added, while still not being put on the spot by people they don't want to deal with. Maybe they're willing to add anyone from their games, maybe they're more selective.
The point is that as long as there's at least one way to get ahold of someone OOCly (pm is actually the best to keep open, because we all have dw accounts), then there's literally no hardship and nothing to complain about.
okay, so what if, for example, i need to get a hold of someone that has pps disabled for non-friends and they also have pms disabled for non-circle members? i don't use aim. should i have to make an aim account just to try to get a hold of them when they seem to be going out of their way to make contact as difficult as possible? no. fuck that.
don't list a mode of contact if you don't want everyone trying to get a hold of you that way. i list my plurk and my accounts to pm. that's it. i don't list my email because i don't want people emailing me. i list the ways that i don't mind anyone/everyone trying to get a hold of me through as a means of being able to contact me. that's the whole point of putting it up for as contact information.
you are so unbelievably ass devastated about this. if i had to deal with you, i'd make sure there was no way for you to contact me at all because you sound like the biggest tittybaby in dwrp rn.
considering that was my first comment in this thread, i don't think i'm really all that invested. i was just throwing in a 'what if' factor. and yes, i've come across people who've had their pm ability turned off and i had no other way to get a hold of them.
and i wound up having to be 'that person' that left an ooc note in a post of theirs since they had no other way to contact them. it's a dick move to make people do when they won't accept friend requests from everyone and you can't pp or pm them to let them know you need to talk about something.
Stop using edge cases. What you're talking about is not going to happen often enough to justify your opinion. If you had to leave an OOC note on a tag, you had to leave an OOC note on a tag. It is dumb to not have any other contact method available and I support you being annoyed by anyone who does that, but that's not the same thing as "every listed contact method should be open to everybody at all times."
(As it happens, my plurk does allow pps from anyone with an account. However, I list it on my profiles not to invite you to send me pps from out of nowhere, but so people in my games can add me as a friend if they want to.)
listing in your profile that you won't add someone unless they send you an ask or are a game mate isn't at all the same thing as closing down an avenue of communication to people that you might be playing with unless they add you.
if your plurk was only for a close circle of friends, don't list it as 'a means for someone to contact me for game related things', because contact list shit is always put up in games, meaning your game mates are trying to get a hold of you for something. if you won't leave your plurk open to pps from people you don't have added, the simple answer is not to have your plurk up as a means for communication.
it's: BOB | character - Batman | Contact: plurk/aim/pm not: BOB | character - Batman | Contact: aim/pm/plurk (only for people I have added, otherwise fuck off)
Some people list plurk as a contact method meaning that they'd prefer to plot there WITH people they have added, while still not being put on the spot by people they don't want to deal with.
which is missing the entire point of listing modes of contact on a contact page, though. someone who already has you added isn't going to be looking you up on a contact page, that's for people who don't know you are are looking for a way to get in contact.
i don't list my aim on the contact page because i keep that friends-only. the people i plot with on a regular basis all have it already.
if you list a mode of contact on a page for how to get a hold of you in a game that you're in and not everyone can get a hold of you on it, you're a dick. people shouldn't have to eeny meeny miny mo whatever you put up there in hopes of picking the one you deigned to leave open to non-friends. don't want people you don't know getting a hold of you that way? don't put it up.
notice how you started that with 'back on lj'. notice how we're not on lj and we stopped doing stupid things that didn't make sense? think about that...

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)your complaint would be more legit if plurk was the ONLY way to contact them
if they accept PMs/email/IMs then quit being a tittybaby and use those other methods
