if one more person replurks some random person who goes
"Oh no my rent is due in three days, and ive started looking for work but but havent heard back please donate and maybe I can color icons or something because I dont want to just ask for money but [link to random donation site or paypal]"
i have zero sympathy for people like that. none. you know when your rent is due, you have an entire month to figure out a way to pay it. it's not like it sneaks up on you.
except it seems like people "need a helping hand" literally every other day, for increasingly mundane things, and when shit like this gets replurked into oblivion it's irritating to have to keep muting it over and over again
e-begging is embarrassing and even if i really needed the money i'd find other venues besides hitting up strangers on the internet for it. also agreeing with anons above that rent generally doesn't sneak up on you, and if you're blowing money on stupid shit like animoo merchandise and con tickets i have even less sympathy for your situation. so many of my friends do this and then they go and cry about boohoo dead end job stuck with shitty parents and i'm just like ??? try saving up sometime then instead of blowing your paycheck immediately
THIS, so much this. most of the people i see e-begging on my timeline are financially irresponsible to the max.
inb4 poor people are allowed to have fun, too!!1!11 as a fellow poor person: you kind of need to pick your fun according to your financial situation. i can't go to the super special midnight premiere of winter x-men dragon trainers with three friends if that shit costs 30 bucks a ticket. i can't spend a weekend going to a con. it's just not happening within my current budget. but i can watch a movie i want to see a couple of weeks later, when the price has dropped, and i can get myself a nice book or dvd or other hobby-related thing on sale.
it is entirely possible to be poor and still have nice things within (general) your limits
pisses me off so much when people blow money left and right on shit they absolutely do not need then cry and deadcat about how they're having panic attacks because they can't pay rent and buy their bus pass or gas up their car
it's not the end of the world if you can't see guardians of the galaxy at midnight in 3d with a jumbo tub of popcorn or if you have to wait til that brand new $60 video game goes down in price, i promise
i see at least one of these replurked (and unmuted upon replurk) every day - all of them phrased as unexpected tragedies suddenly and irrevocably afflicting these unfortunate souls who cannot, for the world of them, rely on any other friends or means or resources, and who just hate having to ask, and would you mind using one hand to open your wallet and another to pat their asses about how amazing and brave they are for begging online? thanks, babe.
these plurks are like the equivalent of someone physically stopping you on the street to tell you their woe, because you don't have the choice of not seeing them. i'm sorry about their misfortune, but i don't want to see it. it's not what i come to my plurk for.
i laughed at that first paragraph because it's so true. oh, i hate to beg but here's my link anyway...
eventually they all begin to run together and they're impossible to get away from because well-meaning folks will keep fucking replurking and bumping and sharing. it feels more and more like people are trying to one-up each other in the tragedy department, too.
i'd also like to add that "mute and move on" doesn't help much because they will unmute at the drop of a hat- when someone else replurks it, when it gets bumped up, because plurk just feels like it, etc. i have had literally 3 separate plurks about the same fundraiser showing up on my timeline for months now because someone will come along to ~signal boost~ it regularly. if i didn't want to donate the first 30 times i saw it, i never will.
