So... Is Bii really over-invested in her characters or what? I don't pay much attention to OOC things but that's the impression that I'm getting.

when it comes to humankat at least, it definitely seems like it. i thought she was getting better about it, but that little explosion in chat was really off-putting.

Chat was discussing how both Madame and Humankat were trying to recruit Nico into the gamebreaker club, and how both characters were basically badmouthing each other in the separate pesters. Some people in chat joke around about how Humankat's not helping his case with all the badmouthing, Bii eventually gives an angry keysmash and a "YES I FUCKING NOTICED OKAY" and ragequits the chat.

Plus she was spewing a lot of 'fuck you madame' and 'shut up' throughout the whole thing as if she were being personally insulted. Which at first I thought was just her relaying what Karkat's reactions would be, but after that ragequit, I doubt it.

She's just incapable of realizing that everyone's just joking around about the character's actions (which we do for ALL characters) and not trash-talking her or how she plays him.

Bii is way too invested in everything Jarjammed and can't handle an ounce of feedback. She comes off as so brittle and hysterical at times that even though I have things I'd like to talk over with her, there's no way in hell I would do it with my name attached.

It's stupid, but after this blowup it really bothers me that she refers to Karkat as 'me' and other characters as 'you.'

oh good, so it wasn't just me. it's roleplay so I wasn't going to call her on it or anything, but it always gave me a bit of a soulbonder vibe.

I get the impression she's just playing him as herself. The asspain over setting things up is annoying too. It makes me feel like she's trying to take charge all the time.

Tell me, is this Bii as in the Bii on Y!gallery? Cause then the answer is yes, very much so.

Otherwise, there's just something wrong with people who use Bii as a handle which causes them all to become EXTREMELY overinvested in really bafflingly random ways.

I've talked to Bii about this before. It bothers me too, and as someone with very close CR with her, it obviously affects me more than most. She generally listens to me a lot better than she'll listen to anons or anonymous complaints as filtered through the mods, so if you want me to talk to her about this or anything else, I can. I wasn't in chat to witness what was mentioned earlier because frankly chat is way too fast and stressful for me to be in now that the game is so large (and especially right after a new entry), but if it's to that point then she definitely needs to be talked to.

Related, I guess, but it's worth saying: when I talk to her about her playing issues, I"m not gentle. I don't coddle her. I'm very strict and direct about what her problems are if I think there's one I need to talk to her about. All she wants is for people to speak to her directly and civilly about their issues. That is literally all she is asking. It's the anonymousness of it and the fact that it means literally ANYONE in the game could secretly hate her that makes her so anxious and unhappy about HMDs. Just man the fuck up and talk to her face to face and I guarantee it will go better than you think.

Update: I've talked to her about this issue. She agreed she was way over-invested and is going to step off on that front. Yes, even the 'me/you' thing. The thing to remember is that she really does try and want to do well. It may seem like she panics every time she gets crit, but that's not because she's reacting badly to the crit itself, it's because she feels horrible that she was making anyone unhappy or uncomfortable.

I can't promise it will stick but just know it HAS been addressed.

As a relatively new person to the game and one who's getting most of this second hand (I was there for the incident in chat), i'd like to thank you for making that offer. Bii's come off as a vibrant, welcoming person and I wanna play with her in the future.

However i've also known lots of people who get way overinvested in their characters and have bad character bleed. And it's not your responsibility to run interference for her, or in the long term helpful for her.

I can empathize with Bii's feelings. I used to have a very similar attitude towards anoncomms. It prevented me from taking legit crit and I did some pants on head stupid things that could have been prevented if i'd listened more openly (in some cases even actively trying to troll anoncomm just to get a reaction). Of course, not all anon crit is legit (just like not all logged in crit is). Some is complete bullshit. Some is FDA approved no more than 40% bullshit. But she can't dismiss it all just because she dislikes the source.

The statement about her fearing being hated confused me. RP's a social hobby, so it's a mathematical certainty that someone in it is going to hate your ass. Not having an anon enable HMD isn't going to change it if someone does. Can you clarify what you meant by that?

BTW while i've been reading this thread, i'm not one of the anons in it.

We can take this convo to PMs if that'd make you more comfortable.

The issue with anons is that you don't know who they are (it's also kind of the whole point). So when you get anon crit, especially if it's not-very-nice anon crit, it's easy to fall into the trap of 'this could be anyone. anyone I am playing with as of right now could secretly really dislike me and not want to play with me at all', and that's a really shitty feeling to have. It's not a good line of thinking but it's easy to fall into; I've had the issue too, though not in the game, and just pushed past it. Bii is on the whole worse at that.

I honestly do worry that people dislike and avoid me because I'm very closely involved with Bii in this RP. I don't know if it's true and I logically know it probably isn't, but it's something that bothers me every time people start wanking on her again. A lot of these concerns are very valid though so I pretty much ignore it in favor of trying to help her, since a lot of the anons here don't seem comfortable doing so themselves or through the mods.

It's also worth noting that I used to be closely involved with Tally, so after that, NOTHING looks half so bad. I have a lot more hope for Bii than most Jarjamanons seem to.

EDITING ONE LAST TIME because it bothered me: Bii is not ignoring all crit because she dislikes anoncomm. She avoids anon comms because they stress her very, very badly. She is more than willing to listen to crit if it's presented civilly and she always does when it's brought up to her. There has never been a 'lol no that's bullshit' moment from her that I've seen, only the occasional overreaction to anon crit because she was scared everyone in the game shared the same sentiment about her being a bad player which, as I said above, is an easy way of thinking to fall into.
