I think some of it is less that people are against it and more than there aren't as many female to female relationships that work for it in canons and could believably be IC. Most power-hungry abusive authority figures in most canons are men and the ones who are women either often focus on their children/family as the recipient of most of their wrath/abuse (and not everyone likes incest) OR they're femme fatales who spend a lot of their time seducing and lying to men. Obviously there are exceptions but that's most of what I see.

idk anon, but i wish more people were into unhealthy fucked up f/f because it's the only kind of f/f i like.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Fandom has shittons of issues around f/f and lesbians in general.

are u the history nerd who thinks the 30s was so good to gay people lol

Seriously, if one of them was going to be offended by the comparison, I'd think it should be Mormonhime.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
i honestly think its because the majority of f/f shippers aren't actually into it, but they want to pretend they are totally down with lesbians so they just write them as they would a bff platonic relationship and stick a lesbian stamp on it and call it good

Forgot to add: of course you can have an unhealthy relationship without one character being an abusive authority figure, but lbr here. Noncon/dubcon/abuses of power are far and away dwrp and fandom's favorite kind of unhealthy relationship, much moreso than anything where the characters might conceivably be on equal footing.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
is this why when there's actual issues with an f/f ship in canon instead of embracing the unhealthiness the shippers act like it doesn't exist

bc lesbian ships are held to a high standard, and according to tumblr if something has any problems it's trash forever

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
idk, i think there are is a certain percentage of people like this but i don't think they're the majority of f/f shippers at all. when i see people who write 100 long comment threads of fluffy f/f smut or 50,000+ words of fic, i don't think that's someone faking interest to be down with the queers. that's a lot of effort to pour into something you don't actually care about.

i think it's more just that a lot of f/f shippers tend to be more vanilla in their tastes for whatever weird reason, and i also think fucked up or rapey f/f has a neckbeard stigma attached to it so people who might want to play it will shy away from it. fucked up het can have this stigma too, as a matter of fact, but it's not nearly as common or as intense of one because of the history of rapey romance novels for women, etc.

i keep forgetting what complete tittybabies most rpers are

this girl is nearly thirty, living with her mother, and spends her day posting temper tantrums about how unfair and mean her mom is to ask her to get off her fat ass and get a job

the worst part is how every time a flock of asspatters swarm her and tell her no bb your mom is the devil you're too presh for a job

you expect your mother to tiptoe around you for a week after you two have a fight bitch you are 27 years old it's time to grow the hell up

That awkward moment when you figure out that your favorite CR you're playing with is a magnet for ooc drama and you had no idea until it was too late.

I've gotten super close with a few rp partners but in those cases we usually wind up talking about rp less than half the time. Spending a ton of time with a friend isn't inherently unhealthy as long as it's not interfering with your general functioning.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
While they might need to gain some perspective and distance, I wouldn't encourage someone to dump a friend if that's what you mean.

i bet a large part of it has to do with how women must be pure at all times or else they're terrible.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly? that was the part i found gross. there was a really skeevy narrative of "girls who don't grow up with strong male figures in their lives become broken and unable to function properly in society" going on. that was why every woman you meet in the game, with the exception of cybil, was dependent on and/or taken advantage in some way by a man. it didn't jive well with me.

idk just something about the way everything was framed in that story rubbed me the wrong way. i can't really explain it too well. it was just a gross feeling i got. like, yeah, both harry and dahlia were at fault for their marriage falling apart, but it felt like the game was trying to drive home the point of oh if only cheryl had her daddy growing up she wouldn't be so fucked up. no thanks.

im sad because i would ship with an ugly tooth ice monster dagger any day

idk if someone as gross as jex is suddenly sneaking their way into games by pretending to be trans i'd want to know.

especially since he has a history of harassing people to play out shit that they don't want even after they tell him to knock it out.
