guillermo del toro and kojima were teaming up to make silent hills, which stars norman reedus. the super hyped p.t. free "demo" on ps4 was actually a teaser for silent hills, which showed a lot of promise imo. kojima is a great director and producer and i would have trusted him to make a good silent hill. guillermo has been wanting to make a horror game or ages, so it would have been a match made in heaven.

the reason why "silent hills is dead" is because it's a konami ip. allegedly, kojima is leaving konami, and konami has gone so far as to remove kojima's name and other bullshit. just google kojima + konami and i'm sure the news will crop up and be better explained. anyway. because silent hill (the franchise) is a konami ip, it's unlikely that kojima will still be working on it. guillermo might stay on board, but because he and kojima are close friends (and wanted to do this together), who knows. nobody knows what the fate of silent hills will be just yet, so a lot of this is conjecture. all we know is that konami wants to continue the mgs franchise without kojima, so the same might be said for silent hills.

really curious why konami fired him. it must have been a bad dispute if they're trying to wipe any trace of his involvement with the company away.

do we know konami fired him vs him quitting?

kojima strikes me as someone who has a very strong vision for what he wants to do and i could see him booking it if for whatever reason konami tried to reign him in (not that they've done that in the past but who knows). though that brings the question of why as he's helmed and was going to helm the two franchises that bring them the most money.

pretty sure they fired him.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/kojima-expected-to-leave-konami-after-mgs5-inside-/1100-6426024/

and i think it was a matter of it being a power struggle for creative control, too. the biggest thing i've gleamed about kojima from interviews of people who worked with him in the past is that he has a very big ego. it's pretty obvious that he's gotten more creative control over each game in the series with mgs4 being the pinnacle of that (and possibly even 5 depending on how things pan out), so he's probably a guy who isn't used to being told "no" or being reigned in. if anything contributed to him getting fired, especially in a work atmosphere like japan's where you don't argue with your bosses over anything, i'm sure it was that.

as for why they chose him to helm silent hills, i would assume the decision came before things really soured between him and konami. he's the only big name person working for them who has a reputation of putting out critically acclaimed games. how would he not be a choice for handling silent hill?

i couldn't really care less if kojima stays on board but i'm going to be sad as pandas if guillermo follows suit. his involvement was the one i was most excited for.

goddammit konami.

I'm mad because I wanted to watch the two be massive fucking nerds together.

The twitter photos would have been amazing.

konami canned kojima

and are currently in the process of making him a nonperson, 1984-style

this is ironic considering mgsv is set in 1984 and probably inspired by it somewhat too

watch this turn out to be another marketing ploy like moby dick studios
