I feel like HomuMado and Sanpe/Lilly suffer from a deluded fanbase more than anything. To me it never felt like canon pushed either them more as something genuine that was corrupted by misery and desperation (in the case of Homura) or one-sided and avoidably tragic (in the case of Snape/Lilly). Especially since Harry Potter had Dumbledore, of all characters, call Snape out for being stupid, selfish, spiteful, and cruel in his actions.
