That's actually reassuring. I know it's difficult to judge a show of that length on the first few episodes but so far I've found the character unbelievably grating so it's good to know that it's actually a character development thing and I'm not in for 50 episodes of the show trying to convince me he's lovable.
the creators themselves say that mirror gem/ocean gem is the true 'start' of the story and steven's character. if you just want to jump in or something and ignore how steven can be insufferable at times, i felt like that too when starting so you're not alone anon, you can do that?
or watch only the important plot episodes of the first season that lead up to mirror gem. for me that's bubble buddies, steven's lion, so many birthdays, lion 2: the movie, rose's room, monster buddies, and an indirect kiss that come at the top of my head.
