Yeah, so have I. I'd really prefer to know because if it's something unique and interesting I'd love to play that out, if it's the tired old "you're all clones" twist that I've played a million times before then no thanks.
every single other game i've seen have some "dark twist" on the revival mechanic has used clones, if we can't do something original i'd rather not have it come up icly at all tbh. i've played the 'boo hoo i'm a clone' existential crisis plot too many times, and it honestly makes it difficult for some characters to find motivation afterwards and not descend into moping.
If everyone gets their powers back in endgame, where's the challenge? The conflict? Powered characters can completely steamroll the oppressive government and end the war in a day. Meanwhile non-powered characters will undoubtedly be left twiddling their thumbs and excluded from making an impact on the game-wide plot.
Unless you're playing a superhero god-type character, it's going to be a yawnfest. Also seconding the anons wanting to know OOCly how resuscitation works. If it's the standard clone explanation, I'd rather pass on finding out ICly. At this point it isn't even interesting.
Agreed. Unless your character is a 10-12 ranked fighter, they're not going to hold a candle to the powered characters if powers come back. I get why people want the big cool flashy powers-destroy-everything resolution, but it's basically going to shut most non-powered characters out of anything other than background/support roles and that's no fun. Whereas without powers, most of the characters (even low ranked ones) have been through arenas enough times that they can contribute, and the gap between the most and least powerful is a lot smaller.
Without powers, there may be super skilled trained fighters but they're still humans and strength in numbers will be needed to win. Look at the actual books: children are sent to fight because they need to fill out those numbers even if they're not particularly strong. With powers, when the powered characters together have more strength than both sides combined, numbers aren't really needed and everyone else is essentially useless unless they have some special skill (stealth, science, medical, etc). Even if some people have their characters side with the Capitol, all the big battles will likely be powered vs. powered or powered vs. whole army, with little pockets of non-powered characters doing their own thing to the side and trying to pretend the powered characters aren't absolutely dominating the plot.
Alas, the vote so far is overwhelmingly in favor of powers being returned.
As someone who voted yes to powers already, I did so with the assumption that the mods aren't going to let them be completely untethered and overrun the plot. That would be sorta stupid. Personally, I would like the opportunity to use them within the confines of the setting as far as what the Capitol or D13 will allow, not simply having them 24/7 and not being completely restricted from using them.
So what happens to the normal characters with no powers? Get relegated to being target practice for the powered characters? End up being stuck as busboys in the Mess Hall?
You're really invested in blowing this out of proportion, aren't you? I didn't say anything like that. This isn't going to be a Power-Free-For-All. There are still going to be limitations. For instance, District 13 isn't going to let Thor blast away at everything with lightning just because he can. They are still going to want to control what he can do, so that he doesn't decide to turn on them and blow them away as well. This is basic common sense.
If the mods plan this right, normal characters will still have the same combat opportunities that they would have otherwise. There are not nearly enough powered characters to make some kind of elite power army of loose cannons so that they can leave the normies at home to scrub the mess hall, and that would be terrible planning on the mods' part if they did.
Yes, but these are The Games mods. How much can we truly trust them not to bungle this? I mean, the fact that they're allowing this vote to begin with is questionable as it is.
i don't understand this. powers have been capped to give characters a relatively level playing field in arenas, and that's why i joined in the first place (some of mine have powers). why introduce a fucking ridiculous power balance in endgame of all times? right when everyone will actually WANT to get their slice of the game wide plot?
it feels pointless to even answer the survey when the vast majority of players want powers back. if the mods don't handle this well, i think we can expect players to continue dropping as they have been.
You assume I haven't voted. However, the vote is going overwhelmingly on the yes side and I have every right to be unhappy about something I feel will unbalance the game.
