actually, no, there's a big difference. an anon brought it up better than i ever can, but basically they both have different methods of preying upon their victims, victimology is different, you'd need different methods of ideintifying and catching them, etc etc.
yeah, they both fuck kids and they both suck, but they are different and they are different from a reason. pointing out them being different is not bad or wrong. being raped and having acid thrown on your face are different also, but both are horrible things. neither is better or worse. people pointing out the difference are not trying to excuse one or the other.
the thing is, we aren't running profiles. we aren't trying to get into the mind of the criminal.
we're not feds trying to catch these people.
we're just regular people for the most part.
we really don't have any need for the semantic differences.
ephebophiles, hebephiles, ebephiles, etc. etc. are all still pedophiles
also while anecdotes don't mean a lot, I can tell you that in my experience that prosecutors and the FBI really don't actually make that distinction. the people working the case on my abuser didn't even know what the word ephebophile was.
