I'm not going to out myself but I can confirm that I've sent them a pp and they are still trying to send me updates when they can. There's nothing for them to do without direction, what someone else would do as co-mod doesn't really serve as an argument here because not everyone handles things in the same way. It's a dying game, ffs, not a business.
to the one calling stanning: have you tried to contact them too? because I don't think you're seeing the whole picture, you just want a reason to shit yourself.
Whenever I see a thread like that happening, it almost always ends up unfinished with the rest handwaved. (Or every subthread ends up unfinished with the rest handwaved, too.)
I don't think I've ever read a complete "OP character vs OP character" or "OP character gets taken down by a group of not-as-OP characters" scenario....
as someone who was reading that plurk when it was public - about half the people in that plurk are no longer in the game. this was posted after the first announcement in which it was floated by Gabby that the game might be kept open as a sandbox.
pretty sure most people would have been happy with a sandbox game but gen for one was super pushy about not going that route.
it doesn't sound normal but at some point she explained it as being worried about rejection because she's been in the same situation and been rejected before. i get being afraid, but it's been long enough and she won't know if she doesn't just do something.
also I know at least one or two of those people are good friends of Gabby's. tbh I didn't realize she didn't know about it until the ooc post went up saying she didn't have anything to do with the second announcement.
While I think it would be better in most cases if apping players took the initiative to check in with important castmates before apping (not for permission, but to break the ice and test the waters), mods absolutely don't check with casts. Where did OP get that idea?
That said, in a situation where there's bad blood between A and B because of something B did... if it's bad enough, and even if A tries to be nice and mature about it, some kind of story is going to get around the game. A is going to be obligated to quietly explain to at least a portion of players that they don't play with B, or B is going to have to explain to people that A doesn't play with them, or there may be other players around who already know what went down between A and B in the past and are uncomfortable that B was allowed in.
That's how you get more than A feeling "unsafe," and that's why what actually happened between the two players in the past is important when a mod makes this call. Whether or not the other players are projecting doesn't really matter if the bottom line is that they lose trust in the mod team.
depends on the character. which is a cop-out answer, but i think it applies here. if your character is constantly getting into confrontations or is someone who will get personally involved, there has to be a lot of discussion and planning involved for most plot, and probably some power nerfing even before apping. if your character rarely uses their powers, i wouldn't care that much about planning.
clarification since I reread the pastebin: this was posted after the second announcement
so timeline: first announcement (Gabby's) went up, then people started saying no don't close the game. then the second announcement (Kippur/Murgy/Gen's) went up and people started plurking about it, including Caletara.
so tbh I'm pretty sure Caletara's intentions were more 'hey we might have options now, let's see who's interested'. I can't say the same for Gen or Kippur.
I'm assuming you mostly mean villains? If so, the trick there is find motives and reasons for the character not to just run over everyone. To use your Lucifer example, he's very confident and seems to prefer game-playing to just running over people with his powers, so it's easy enough to create situations where he just doesn't show off being overpowered.
In threads where such villains might switch over into OP mode (such as in a fight) there has to be a lot of OOC planning and communication, yes. Every good mun of these types of characters that I've played off of also come up with ways for their character to be taken down a peg if it becomes necessary and then plans or communicates with anyone interested in being a part of it. Sometimes that's other overpowered characters, but often these villains (such as, again, Lucifer) have weaknesses even totally normal human characters can exploit if it's plotted for.
OP characters that are generally calm or friendly are similar to villains, but easier since they tend to have even less reason to show off their powers. With them though you need to be careful OOCly not to create situations that another character might ICly want to get involved in but the mun OOCly doesn't; using Supernatural again, a friendlier angel like Castiel or Anna might offer to heal a character that would ICly accept, but the mun doesn't want them healed for whatever reason. So you do have to think about these things and sometimes plot OOCly with the mun before the topic comes up.
So tl;dr not as much work as you would think (at least in my experience; it's been awhile since I played a very OP villain but my main muse for a long time was a kind-hearted OP character) but definitely a lot of OOC communication and a willingness to make sure your character isn't stealing the show or making other players' experiences less fun.
AC goes up on the first of the month. You have until the last day of the month to submit your AC. Comments for AC must be within posts made after the AC post goes up for that month.
Ideally, with the 'always open' AC, there would be no hiatus exemptions from AC. You have literally all month to do AC and turn it in, so it's on you to do it during the time you're not on hiatus.
