do we gotta have a talk about how asian ppl try to look "white" because white ppl mock what they consider asian features, and the other way around is not the same again?

I wouldn't call it yellow facing, but it does make me uncomfortable that she would think such a thing is on par with eyelid glue and the like. They exist for completely different reasons. These cosplayers think that making your features look "Asian" (to thrm: slanted smaller eyes) is the same thing as being affected by Western beauty standards due to colonialism. And for the sake of a costume, no less. These are probably the weebs who say geisha costumes during Halloween are offensive but pull this shit themselves.

um... no. in cosplay, it's about asians trying to look like white chars and white people trying to look like asian chars. this isn't about mocking anyone or doing it just because you're bored. tbh, if white people aren't allowed to either cosplay non-white chars or do anything to look the part without it being racist, the same should apply across the board. be an asian starfire or a black tony stark. or don't choose to cosplay chars that aren't the same ethnicity as you. either or.

or do what you want and stop using double standards to make it an sjw issue.

she's also not the one calling it yellow facing or saying it's on par with it. her asian fb cosplay friends are.

i've put a #me tag on fanart of a character sharing my name and wearing an outfit very much like my style before and you see that kind of thing too, or #me tags on like, relatable comics or art of characters doing something goofy too

if it's the same character(s) or an #im ____ tag then yeah, probably other/fictionkin

so what i'm getting from this is that all of you are upset people don't want to devote every second of their free time to you and you alone

okay

Yeah if it was something extreme and the mod knew all along as implied here, they've already been shitty anyway. Trying to be IC is a basic game rule. I've been figuring this is less "Cloud loves Sephiroth who killed Aerith" and somewhere closer to "Cloud and Zack are together even though they have more canon love interests and C is either one of the love interests or another character who might be affected by mutual relationships".

gotta love the fact that it caps off with "and then my old principal wouldn't hire me as a teacher, so i put a curse on all teachers of my favorite subject and decided to try starting a holocaust instead."

my favorite villain backstory to this day.

why do gamzee stans have such a persecution complex

For all that wait and hype, it seems like nothing really happened. I know there's more updates coming, but I'd hoped the big update we all waited for would be more than just 15 minutes of build up and maybe 3 minutes tops of something actually happening. There were a lot of cool bits, but it was all flash, and no substance.

I liked the retrospective on the beta kids though, and the music and art were really awesome.

Is that the new thing in cosplay now? Last I checked the idea was still to make your eyes look wider and maybe subtly change the shape with eyeliner.

I've also done it when a character is being really silly or embarrassing in a way I can relate to, like that comic of Yu hanging up on Yosuke so he can pet a cat.

Re: Curious....

(Anonymous) 2016-04-06 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
A little more than average, but not a huge amount.

Honestly, the big part of this issue is the player themselves in my experience. If you have a player who is playing the character because of the fact they're OP, then these are the players where you run into headaches. On the other hand, players who pick up these characters because they like the characters are usually more than willing to be flexible with the fact they're OP, since they're also usually aware that it's ridiculous or not "fair."

Personally, I'm just straightfoward about situations where my own OP characters might use those skills in a way that are going to negatively effect another character. So if Character A wants to fight my Character B, I'll tell the player something like "we can do that, but my character may do X, Y, Z. Is that still okay?" If ir is, perfect, and if it's not, then we either talk more about how to dance around it, or if we can't, then I say it's probably not a good idea to thread out whatever they want to do. Nine times out of ten, this suffices, and for the one time where the thread absolutely has to happen, these just turn into long discussions about what we're both wanting from the thread.

in every game i've played in that did rng for plot spaces, there were multiple groups that they could sign up for (group 1 goes into the spooky woods, group 2 goes to abandoned well, etc). so, if feasible, i'd just put one of them in a different group

eh it makes sense. It honestly felt like the Boss rush before the final boss of a vidya game.
