This is more than squick though. This is really fucking insensitive. This is fetishizing a dark, disgusting side of history that still reverbrates throughout today (and that's not including the fact that human trafficking is still a thing). Switch out the word "mouse" for the n word and see how similar they are in terms of dehumanization. Pretty glass bodyparts don't make this any less ugly and ignortant.

dwrp has a whole game based on a canon with these themes. why are we wanking on a musebox?

...hair color game...????

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
basically a game that basically used racism as a game mechanic, but changed it to hair color instead of skin color. and yet they somehow thought nobody would be offended by this or find this a bit distasteful.

and apparently i'm fond of the word "basically" this morning

probably because it's based on a classic yaoi series, and it's more a metaphor for classism than racism, but people are super prone to missing the point.

(frozen comment) Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe because the creators were stupid enough to use a physical trait as a metaphor to "classism" and expected people not to connect it to racism.

it's stupid and tonedeaf all around.

You're aware that the dark haired lower class are meant to represent the average Japanese person wrt the games' inspiration, right? It's not about black people.

and later versions of the series had the different castes represented by various races, for that matter. the social commentary backdrop of ai no kusabi's backdrop has always been about economic classism.

did you forget that oppressed, downtrodden people in fiction are always coded black?

(frozen comment) Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
i was unaware that racism was restricted to black people.

AnK still isn't an analog for racism, considering their were Japanese Elites.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
ok, so you're as tonedeaf as the creators.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
... when Rich Japanese People oppress Poor Japanese People, that's not racism, you mentally deficient mutant, that's CLASSISM

and even then, what's the fucking problem? it's a super fictional analog *at best*, not people playing or fetishizing actual racism/classism/whateverism.

lbr american SJWs deny classism exists. they'd have to confront the reality that their college education is a privilege and they've been led around by the nose by tone deaf rich fucks

they're talking about Tanagura

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't remember anyone having a problem with Tanagura aside from our Katze player.

And that was just cause she wanted to make an AnK game first but dragged her feet.

i wanted to say this too. i remember when the game was first getting conceived and i don't remember any bitching about problematic slavery triggers.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
idk how to tell you this, anon, but slavery has been used as a setting device for countless works of fictional entertainment. even stuff written by black authors.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
slave/master shit and objectification/dehumanization are not uncommon kinks. are they the kind of thing you spring on random rp partners without warning? lord no, but i don't see the point in declaring them utterly unacceptable for people to play in private psls with partners who are also into it.

there are worse kinks out there. as long as people are being considerate about not dragging partners who aren't into it into niche kink stuff that can be offensive, live and let live.

also can i just say that it's pretty fucked up to take a trashy kink scenario and insist it's disgusting because IF you took the anodyne fantasy-racism terminology that doesn't resonate with real life suffering and replaced it with an intensely loaded real life racial slur, it would be disgusting.

uhh

other anons covered it pretty well, but this game has nothing to do with our history. if you see "genetically modified/bred sextoy clones of humans with glass ribcages and glowy eyes" and immediately think BLACK SLAVERY!!!!, you...

you just. i don't even know, man. i don't know where you've been, because like another anon said, ~master/slave breeder toys~ is not at aaaallllllllll an unusual trope

like i'm all for poking fun, but you're going really, really over the top here
