well, technically, she never left the main roster

but if this means more of her team with Nia, I'm all for it, Eva was the best kind of heel in NXT

Nah Aki claims to drop RP once every two months or so. She's just running low on sycophants again so the cycle must start anew.

goddam but am I ever tired of every single player of this one non-character plurking daily about how much they're projecting their own sexual abuse and genderfeels onto said character.

"if you're only watching kids' shows"

I think a big draw is that this is a kid's show doing this

It's intimate, yes, but not sexual. Last time Greg danced with a gem it was compared to communication.

a shame. she's a good writer and a great levi when she's around honestly but she can't fucking commit to anything due to her nonexistent attention span. definitely less than impressed by her falling in with cat too.

yeah and i definitely agree that it's very high quality for a kids' show and it's a really nice thing that it's airing

but a lot of people act like steven universe is a magnum opus of storytelling and that there are no other shows that have this level of quality and depth period

my experience was that she tagged maybe once a month and then would complain about how RL>RP when it was brought up.

or you can mute. their plurk doesn't have to be about what applies to you 24/7.

I didn't intend for that to be read as "only SU does this", just that some shows don't.

Fair enough! You are right, there is a vocal group of people refusing to accept that it's anything less than perfect or miles above everything else. It always comes off as them wanting to feel like they're somehow superior for watching it. Is it not good enough to just enjoy something for what it is anymore?

why are people connecting anything to sex in a kid's show anyway?

everything ALWAYS has to be sex, duh

this may come as a shock, but sometimes kid shows have things for adults, too.

remember when rocko worked at a phone sex company?

a throw-away gag is totally comparable to a central element of the show's worldbuiling, yes.

Re: da

this whole discussion is about how non-kid viewers enjoy more nuanced storytelling. these viewers grew up mostly in the 80s and 90s, when this was not the case for kids' shows or even many older-oriented shows. as one of these viewers, i can attest to this.

i also saw shows begin to develop out of this in the last decade, but from the pov of someone whose formative tv-watching years were spent on less nuanced storytelling from the 80s and 90s, shows like su not being hamfisted or one-note is still surprising and amazing to many of us.

so su isn't anything special compared to shows now, but compared to the shows we grew up with, it is. a lot of shows today still surprise me with how much better they are than the ones i had to grow up with, nostalgia factors notwithstanding.

SU's definitely hinted at sex before (Vidalia & Marty, Rose's incredibly flirtatious "ohh yes" in response to Greg saying things have been fun, and I'm preeetty sure there was implied Lars/Sadie fooling around at the beginning of Horror Club, etc) but everyone likes to associate sex with the one thing explicitly stated to be plain and simple love and communication. Go figure.
