i ship genji/mercy and pharah/mercy and i mean, mercy did save his life and they probably spent a lot of time together during his rehabilitation. also, they were both part of overwatch at the same time. they're allowed to call each other by their first names regardless of their relationship status. mercy and pharah don't have a past together so yeah, there's not going to be a lot of evidence in the actual lore.
(but i think if mercy is/was seeing anyone, it was torbjorn, which definitely wouldn't be my thing but the reaction from the fandom would be hilarious)
there's a good chunk of rabid f/f fangirls on Tumblr who want to pretend their arbitrarily supported lesbian ship is leagues better than the het options, or even m/m pairings that don't involve the characters they ship because m/m is an acceptable target nowadays. From what I've seen, this doesn't account for all shippers of pharah/mercy, but some get really defensive when there's a hint of a different ship. Hence that genji line being questioned for its legitimacy because genji/mercy fans are totally trying to devalue their lesbian ship.
