it's not the "untrue to the original canon" thing that sticks in my craw so much as the "completely missing the point of the relationship"
the point was that it wasn't the "mistah j" she'd fallen for, though.
i said a lot of horrible and stupid shit in my late teens/early twenties because i was an ignorant closeted asshole with not much exposure to the lgbt community. it happens. people make mistakes. opinions change.
while i agree it's definitely going to alienate somebody no matter how you do it, i think it's a disservice to the story.
it also smacks very much of the myspace-era of teen girls who were obsessed with joker/harley in a very bonnie and clyde way because of their gross 30+ juggalo boyfriend and how they would defend the ship to the very end due to joker loving harley ~underneath it all really guys

not anymore. for a while they were delayed for a few hours but now i haven't gotten anything in a little over a day and i've been tagged in that time period.
riley tolerated white people who kissed her ass and listened to everything she said. anyway, i don't remember what series of events lead to this, but iirc it was a joke referencing the phrase "showing your ass". apparently tally thought that a good way to laugh at people who show their ass figuratively was to show her ass literally.
the point according to the original canon, sure. but this isn't the original canon, so it has a different point. it's not like the comics suddenly had him change personality for no reason -- this is a new harley and a new joker, and they decided this time they wanted to tell the story differently.
how is it possible to be that cringe worthy of a person
or it's a different version of the relationship you were expecting because of the comics
it was the one she hoped for. you can love someone and still want them to be a better version of themselves. just like she imagined herself as a better version of herself.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 04:10 am (UTC)(link)like someone else mentioned in this thread, i think that really depends. this is a different version of a story. it's adapting it to suit to a later audience and more comfortable societal behaviors. it can still be a fucked up relationship, but it doesn't have to be abusive. wasn't there freaking out about how a poster showing mystique being strangled promoted violence against women? i know, i know, rl =/= fantasy, but it's a new twist to a story that adds something more to it.
some might like it. others will probably hate it. just like when they change any aspect of a character that has an already firmly established role. aquaman's not white and blue eyed and blond? no one bats an eye. joker has feelings (albeit still fucked up and twisted and weird feelings) for harley and that's the dealbreaker? they've rebooted and twisted dc stories so many times, it's really impossible to claim any one line as 'the real version'. this joker is as different as all the others, and at least we get a harley this time. i'm happy with it. sorry that you're not.

tally for being in the same league as alphie. back in the day she briefly became obsessed with one of my ocs she wanted to ship with theta. the mods of that game ended up pming me asking if i was comfortable with tally because she cried to the mods about how she didn't feel welcome and apparently mentioned me and my character a lot. naturally i said fuck no and they told her to chill her tits. i wasn't even against the ship, i was just a slowass tagger.
does anyone remember hedge? the guy who kept reminding everyone how gay he was whenever he said stupid shit and got wanked on for it? (iirc telling people to kill themselves)
spandy for literally everything they did. modding the rapehouse, cramming matt down everyone's throats, constantly being awkward in coa, the works. watching spandy's antics was like watching a house burn down.
