i don't know, i read the comics as a kid and it feels more to me that jughead was always ambiguously ace, they just didn't have a mainstream word for it or didn't care to put a label on him

maybe the writing isn't as smooth as it could be when they're addressing it in the modern comics but it's not like the old comics were the height of sequential art and literature either

oh, they weren't, but they at least put having fun with the characters above earning brownie points with tumblr.

i think you're misremembering how much those comics could read like an after school special in the 90's depending on the writer and the topic. same shit, different era.

really? i don't remember those...then again, the majority of my comics were the collection books with a mix between the new and old stuff

okay, now you sound really fuckin suspect. archie comics, since the beginning, have had these kind of plots and mild afterschool special level social commentary. it was even more noticeable in the 80s/90s if you truly "grew up" with these comics.

google "archie social commentary" anon, this isn't obscure information. if you aren't talking out your ass to try and win an argument, you're at the very least not nearly as familiar with these books as you want to believe.

damn never thought i'd see anyone get elitist over archie comics of all things

i remember them tackling environmental stuff, betty collapsing from overwork, and those christian archie comics but that's it. admittedly, i may be misremembering. mind linking any examples in specific? google search is turning up nothing from before 2012. :(
