there are tons of places online designated for the discussion of mental illness. the internet is not some barren wasteland but for plurk, the sole bastion of human interaction.
... what part of 'my job and the interactions i have to deal with daily is so depressing, i question my ability to handle it' equates to 'mental illness' for you? having a bad moment in life doesn't equal a mental illness, and shoving someone into that spectrum because you don't want to deal with it can have some pretty harmful consequences for them.
and yet someone like me, who suffers from the same shit occasionally, wouldn't consider that mental illness. it'd be just having a bad moment in time. you can have a breakdown without being mentally ill if there are extenuating external factors.
or are you of the mind that everything is a mental illness? and that all people will mental illnesses should be on prescriptions and seeing doctors for it and taking happy pills?

lmfao what the fuck "happy pills" holy shit you're a tool
also mental health forums and online support groups are there for people experiencing temporary symptoms too jsyk. you can even see a therapist for temporary symptoms; my therapist saw people for temporary bouts of depression all the time. you don't need to be suffering chronically to seek out constructive help.
having one outlet in all the world isn't something you should be defending, it's something that needs to be fixed. especially for someone feeling suicidal.
dude.... you're doing some mental gymnastics here, and you sound like a conservative baby boomer who doesn't like the fact that we're now putting words to conditions that have always existed. especially the "happy pills hurr durr modern medicine is bad pills are scary and jonas salk was a witch" schpiel.
a big reason why people are on more pills these days, by the way - because you're undoubtedly going to make that argument - is because now there are pills and medications people actually have the option of taking. back in the day people also had a lot less vaccinations, but it's strange how people seem to forget about that when they complain about how allegedly overmedicated people are.

you can, sure. i've been there. jobs can be shitty, there's no doubt about it. but there's a big difference between a job being shitty and stressing you out to the point of a breakdown and a job making you contemplate actually killing yourself. the first can happen to anyone, the second is a pretty clear indicator of a larger mental health issue going on. mentally healthy people are able to realize that while a job may suck horribly, it's never worth killing yourself over.
