it's so easily avoidable, tho? all the mods have to do is control the number of players, and have an actual plotline set up from the getgo. it can be flexible, of course, but without a skeletal structure, of course the game fucking crushed itself under the weight of so many players, and that isn't the players' faults.
i joined before it got bloated and strangled itself, and i'm pissed that mods keep letting this shit happen.
lmao, no. your mods sucked but they're not to blame here. blame your comrades who feel the need to stick their dicks in everything shiny and drop threads, abandon cr, clique up and ghost on plans then eventually bail. el nysa playerbase was and is fucking trash, go review the past threads if you don't believe me. it was a bunch of bullies and mean girls and insufferable keysmashers who never actually threaded anything, just talked the talk on plurk and ignore everyone outside their own circles. the same crowd that always shits in their sandbox then moves on. this absolutely didn't happen by accident and this attitude of "WAH BUT THE MODS THO" is exactly why people DON'T want to mod, you point fingers at them when it should be pointed at yourselves.
YOU did this to yourselves. bandwagon culture and all the shitty rpers who follow it are at fault, bad modding was just icing on the cake.
Maybe the Nysa players are more to blame in this case, but overall, this is a systemic mod issue for allowing their games to get out of control. If it was only Nysa, you might have a fragment of a point, but the fact that it keeps happening to basically every game means it's a management problem, not a participant one.
it doesn't keep happening to every game, tho. only the ones deemed suitably shiny and worthy of huge flood. THOSE fall apart for all the reasons i described, because THOSE games are basically a revolving door for the shitheads i pointed out. it's not the mods and if you think it is you're missing the point.
you say it's "easily avoidable" and yet it isn't. because it keeps happening with every fad game and el nysa was the biggest fad game at one point, hitting test drive overflows and having capped apps fill up in minutes if not less.
the mods tried what they could, from what i'm seeing. they capped apps, they tried metaplot, players complained it was "too much". now they are doing the opposite, players are still complaining. there comes a point when mods are just going to throw their hands up and not bother anymore. this is supposed to be a fun hobby and the moment it starts feeling like work, the quality is going to start tanking.
even riverview had its hayday and is now in steady decline because after being there for a year, you've done everything there you could do. the quiet place was really popular for a hot minute and then look at what happened. what was that other game a while back that had the same bloat problem? began with an ex and i can't for the life of me remember how to spell it. point is, this is a constant sort of cycle in dwrp. and even in ljrp. i remember when amat was the big fad game despite all the wank surrounding it.
it's been shown time and again, games that bloat fast and hard, either explode (in a bad way) or they slowly whither and die. mods can only do so much when players are fickle and flakey or demanding and unsatisfied no matter what you do.
if app caps fill up, too bad. keep the game small and manageable, or of course this is going to happen, hello?? games don't have to last forever, but having a finite plot actually play out instead of the game crashing and burning like a plane falling out of the sky would be nice.
you know, you could always go start your own game and prove how easy this is yourself. i mean, if it really is so easy to avoid, show us all by demonstration.
otherwise, you're just sitting here talking out of your ass and blaming the mods for every problem you have with the game.
And how many people have tried to start games that then can't because no one will help them? One person can't mod a whole fucking game, and no one wants to help, so we're all stuck with the same polluted gene pool of shitty mods.
Help people run better games, or you're part of the fucking problem, too.
oh, i see. when someone tells you "go start your own game if you think it's so easy", you admit how difficult it actually is and point fingers at other rpers.
but when it comes to the el nysa mods, it's all "they should easily be able to fix everything wrong"
The Nysa mods are a team you idiot. Yes, running a game is hard, but if a group of not fucking idiots sets up a system and sticks to it, a game isn't that hard to run. I've done it. The problem is inexperience and an inability to delegate, coupled with lazy flakes and people who don't want to take responsibility.
exactly. it's not hard - just make an app cap and then stick to it. if you want to limit the game to 100 characters then say that and actually mean it and don't go "well actually we'll let 200 characters in instead."
i'm game if they are. i'm happy to post a sock and make it happen. i'm full of ideas, i just need a couple of people who aren't idiots to help. pity there are so many idiots and cowards in this hobby who would rather bitch about the problem instead making even the most minuscule effort to do anything about it.
that's the spirit! the anon i've been conversing with seemed very concerned about going at it alone. i'm sure they will be happy to know they already have a co-mod ready and willing to help.
as a former mod, this was preventable. el nysa's setting and plot would have worked best with a smaller, capped group.
mod posts even directly address this several times. like from january: "However, our original vision for El Nysa's plot elements has become harder to implement with the scale of the game vs the size of our current mod team."
i've co-modded a small private game that lasted for almost five years because we said we were going to keep it small and then did. we knew we couldn't run the plot we wanted if we had too many players/characters to wrangle so we just put in a hard character cap, no exceptions.
