* Pester players of male characters that have never been canonically paired with men to "make them gay" for "fun" (aka, so the slash fan can push smut scene after smut scene and whine when the other player gets uncomfortable)

* Portray a bizarrely feminized, hypersexual version of their characters that manages to be both homophobic and off-canon at the same time

* Tend to be toxic and demanding, which bleeds over into their characterizations

* Actually have the chutzpah to cry homophobia when someone refuses to warp a character to indulge their fetish

* Think this is okay while howling in outrage when men fetishize lesbians

* Will probably get all butthurt over this while ignoring the nausea gay men feel whenever we stumble across their trash online

there is a subgenre of manga aimed at actual gay men, but i can't remember what it's called. lgbt subculture in japan isn't like it is in the west, though, so there isn't much of it.

it's called geicomi, anon, and there's more than you think, it just isn't usually scanned, much less translated, for western audiences.

it's also, like, 90% porn, but hey, that's how it rolls.

one of the best, non-porn examples (that was actually published in the US! and was nominated for an eisner award!) is My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame. i'd recommend it to anyone, it's beautiful and touching and made me cry a fucking lot.

i agree for most parts but also i gotta ask:

doyou get as upset at male players who creep on every female character, esp if they're moe anime, and get upset when they can't play out their power man fuck fantasies?

or straight dudes who fetishise queer women in real life, not just in fanfiction? to the point where "lesbian porn" is always for straight dudes?

because if you don't, this is really just misogyny veiled with "this is TOTALLY about being woke and fighting homophobia!!" pearl-clutching about some of the most toothless fetishization, mostly done by younger girls and women and largely kept to select online circles

while straight men doing this shit is considered mainstream and pervades real life to the point where some men legitimately think girls kissing other girls is just foreplay for their male enjoyment

yeah, slash fans can be annoying and some of them even cross the real-life-fetishization boundary, or even do shit like creep on actors or harass show producers. some of them clearly think gay dudes are for their enjoyment. but it's not nearly as pervasive or accepted as men fetishizing queer women and if you only care about one of these - especially if it's the one that lets you hate on women while giving men a pass - then your "concern" is just lies and shit.

i hate to use the "as a __" line, but for real, as a gay man, as dumb and annoying as slash and its fans can be, i have zero time in my day to be upset about women exploring sexuality in a way that feels safe for them, especially since straight men do a lot of the same shit on a much more pervasive scale to queer women.

let it go, op. it's not worth the anger. i used to go full in on the "YAOI IS HOMOPHOBIA" debate, but it really isn't worth it (and even that has changed a lot in japan, at least, with plenty of young gay men finding their identity through yaoi despite it technically not being "for" them, because it's more accessible than most geicomi).

In fact, if it had actually happened, you'd be namedropping someone specific, wouldn't you?
