I've always hated this too. Like the gratuitous ugly top surgery scars artists will put on every single character... Makes me feel bad about my own :( I wish they would do this less, it feels so fetishy.

this is the absolute worst and i'm sorry they've made you feel bad, anon. i'm pre-op (still waiting on a consult, fuck you covid) and while i was debating whether i wanted top surgery at all, this actually scared me off a little. plus it's like, wow, is this how cis people see us? it's all really bizarre and harmful and i wish it would stop, but that shit's a minefield

I would say it's still worth it anon. It's all up to your size and weight and the healing process and all three of those things kind of f'ed it up for me. I still wouldn't change it for the world, but I'm definitely wondering if I should look into something that will lighten the scar coloring at least (hair doesn't grow there so it's... obvious.) Everyone has a different result so don't let my story keep you from it!

I feel the same way about it being harmful and weird, especially when before my surgery it wasn't as prevalent in fandom stuff. I actively avoid trans headcanon people because of this and... feelsbadman. Always seems like it's cis artists too, or trans/nb people who aren't actually needing/wanting top surgery. They could come up with better ways to show a character is trans. Or, better, don't bring attention to it at all because why?

Worst I've seen is two trans guys licking each others scars and shit like... It's so obvious the people drawing this stuff (or writing it) have never been through it and don't plan to.

i'm going through with it, trust me, my tits are enormous and i can't live like this

i've also seen the scar-licking a few times which is EXTREMELY creepy. i think in rare cases it's trans people who are dealing with a lot of internalized bullshit who are drawing this stuff but yeah, in large part it's cis artists with a kink or who are otherwise doing it for clout, which imo is just as bad

oh same :( it feels especially gross and fetishy when it's a canon that has stuff like magic or a level of technology that would be able to remove or at least disguise scars like that.

Right? I know most people dislike r63 stuff because people say it's transphobic but I much prefer doing that (wish fulfillment stuff) over giving a character trans baggage. I have enough of that on my own haha.

And like you said if it's a high tech/magic world I would absolutely want my "surgeries" to go perfectly without scarring or pain or anything like that.

exactly, that's half the fun of high-tech/magic worlds! you can write a character transitioning without having to go through all of that stuff. i know i sure as hell would choose that option if i could.

there's a movie with michelle rodriguez and sigourney weaver where they force a sex change on a hitman as retaliation for killing the surgeon's brother. it's... yeah. it's a thing.

the assignment, if anyone's wondering of the name.

What... does this have to do with my comment anon? Just wondering.

it's a realistic world canon with enough medical advancement that apparently this surgery took place with minimal scarring of a transition and here's a literal canon example of someone doing a transition surgery and the effects. i figured it featured in the conversation as an interesting fact.

or do you have an issue with conversations growing organically?

No that makes sense. The "forced transition" part kind of threw me is all. I find that kind of stuff weird.

not for nothing anon but there are actual real world examples of that which aren't movies. surgeries and scar care has advanced that there are plenty of trans men who barely have any visible scars. injecting your fact doesn't really add anything to the conversation except that it makes you look badly informed (and so does using "sex change" which is an outdated term now fyi)

or they're from a historical canon where top surgery or hormones aren't possible and somehow they've totally medically transitioned because drawing men with boobs gets you cancelled on twitter

And none of them remember/acknowledge that there's not an insignificant number of completely cis guys that have top surgery scars too - they're not the magic signifier key of 'this person is trans' like Those Fanartists seem to think.
