a lot of the people I see doing it I sympathize because playing out the intro stuff can be tedious
and also a lot of the people I see doing it take six weeks to get halfway through a thread so like yeah intro stuff must be EXTRA tedious if that's the pace you go at

i'm trying to figure out how this comment relates to AYRT

(Anonymous) 2022-03-04 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
how does crau eliminate this problem unless you intend to only ever play with your fellow craus

this is why nobody likes crau

(Anonymous) 2022-03-23 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
it can help if you want to avoid having to go through the whole "high magic character reacts to technology for the first time ever/everyman reacts to magic being real/etc" stage again, or being introduced to the concept of being whisked away to another world. i think that's what ayrt is referring to by the introductions.

I only dislike them because of how many have forced interactions I didn't want on me based on their CRAUs. I feel like they'd be fine if people could fucking ask before springing shit on others? Like Betty shouldn't have Obi-wan knowing what my character's dick looks like due to sleeping with him in some past game without clearing it with me.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-23 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
every crau i've ever interacted with has been very self-aware of that and has had an opt-out post on their journal

ayrt

Consider me jealous. Want to trade rp lives?

most games i've seen that allows CRAUs have a rule along these lines, or require permission before jumping the gun. if someone is pulling that shit without your comfort and consent, you should make sure they're not breaking any rules.

most players i've interacted with seem fine with CRAUs, so you really need to put on your big kid pants and communicate when you're not okay with it. tbh this situation isn't any different than someone new apping up a dropped character who had a ton of CR with other characters still in game. characters are going to remember a different version than the one you're playing and you still need to speak up if they're pushing your boundaries.

pretty sure that craus are one of those rp things where if you run into the comparatively fewer number of bad apples it can sour the bunch for you. like plenty of people are wary of, say, guys playing f/f. sure, there are guys playing f/f who aren't total creeps and there are crau players who are normal and respectful, but if you meet the other bunch enough times you get bitter about it.

same thing goes for wols and pretty much any rp situation. experiences differ and of course if you keep finding the bad ones you get wary. i think it's good to acknowledge the bad experiences do exist instead of saying they don't, but similarly it's good to acknowledge the good.

it's fucking stupid to pretend the bad doesn't exist or the good doesn't exist, though. wankgate exists because rp always has had and always will have those players who make the hobby a bad experience for others from time to time - but similarly we all stay in the hobby because there are net positives.

ok like, you're not wrong but that has nothing to do with what i'm saying in my comment. having a bad experience does not exempt you from being able to communicate. people aren't mind-readers who can tell if you're not comfortable with them.

pretty sure it's obvious when they dont tag you back, anon.

people don't tag each other back for a billion reasons. learn to communicate.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-23 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
it's pretty obvious from the replies in this thread that most people's stories come from saying they're opting out/don't want to rp with someone and that person throwing a fit or starting drama. hth.

+1 lmao how do the npc players somehow manage to make themselves sound just as if not more neurotic than the wols

if you don't want to tag someone just say as much, if they bitch and moan about it afterwards the only ass they're showing is their own so what does it matter

I mean, if you say no, what would the wol do?

The most I can imagine is them throwing a hissy fit on plurk, which you can block them. If someone stops tagging you because of that then just look for another person to tag. If the wol proceeds to harrass you on PM or discord you can bring it to a mod or block them. Anon comms already hate WOLs so it's not like smearing you in anon threads really matter.

I don't have canonmates though so maybe this is only a problem for people who are in the same canon.

you know what, this is wankgate. shit or get off the pot, people. name these wols that throw a fit when an npc doesn't want to play with them or assumes they're in a ship or whatever. drop the deets.

npc player here and i'd like to know who to avoid on memes and the like.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2022-03-24 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
unfortunately a lot of people in this hobby feel entitled to rp with anyone they want, even if that person doesn't want to rp with then. opting out is a great idea and does work often, but then on the other hand sometimes you opt out and have people who run to wankgate or start a full on vendetta against you for your crimes of not wanting to play with them. those are definitely the kinds of players being talked about in this thread.

shhh anon, let them have their strawman

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2022-03-24 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
how is that in any way a good excuse? hth most games require players to respect opt outs. if someone wishes to opt out of another player literally for any reason, and that player throws a fit and starts drama, there's an easy solution - screencap that shit and take it to be mods.

problem fucking solved, that'll be $2.

you can ignore people being mad on the internet hth

(Anonymous) 2022-03-23 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
+0.75 that's been my experience in recent games but it wasn't always the case. it seems like the current culture around craus is a response to how bad crau players abused them before other people caught on. mods are more pro-active and some require opt-out posts, and more and more crau players are including opt-out posts out of consideration for other players even when it isn't required. there's definitely still some asshole crau players out there, but now they seem like the minority, especially since more players have warmed up to the idea and are starting to drown them out. i still don't blame anyone else for not wanting to deal with them, though.
