"Who doesn't have anxiety???"

Outside your little hugbox echo chamber? LOTS OF FUCKING PEOPLE. Everyone feels moments of anxiety as an emotion sure, but having an anxiety disorder that you're medicated for? In the broader non-fandom world of socially functional adults, there are still lots of people who don't have anxiety disorders.

Just because you surround yourself with anxiety chihuahuas doesn't mean that the entire world is anxiety chihuahuas. Get some fucking perspective.

Maybe they wouldn't have anxiety if they didn't have overly literal fucksticks on their plurk who've never heard of hyperbole before?

Sounds like you have your own disorder to worry about.

let me get this straight:

- politics are a mess
- rents and housing prices are skyrocketing
- inflation is making everything more expensive than ever

and you seriously think that people, in general, aren't feeling just a tiny bit stressed an anxious right now? do you live under a fucking rock? do you not have to worry about your grocery budget because you still have mommy bringing you tendies for dinner every night? i'm just wondering what kind of world you're living in right now

oh i was aware of the context, just still couldn't tell

if it's not satire it's definitely projecting

Re: da

as if it's not projecting to see someone say "everyone's got a little anxiety", which is a fully understandable statement given the shape of the world we live in at the moment, and leaping to the fact that they're diagnosing masses of people with anxiety disorders, but sure, the comment you replied to is the one that needs to be asked if it's satire.

honest answer: because I think it's bad when people lack the perspective to differentiate their experience from shit that's foreign to their experience

Re: PLURK PET PEEVES

(Anonymous) 2022-05-21 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
i feel like your op accidentally buried the lede on this

since it initially comes across as the frustration being that people in rp have anxiety, rather than some clueless idiot not understanding the significance of an anxiety disorder/the fact that YEAH it is meaningfully different from just "ever experiencing anxiety." because yeah the latter would have irritated me too.

that said, this might just be one where it's better to sigh and move on; unless there is even more context we should know about this sounds clueless but well-intentioned rather than malicious.

Considering op is arguing up top that the person with anxiety deserved to be turned down for a job because they admitted to having anxiety, I'd say they're 100% posting this out of malice.

I think it's bad when people lack the perspective to assume a conciliatory comment on social media is anything more than that.

Just because you surround yourself with anxiety chihuahuas doesn't mean that the entire world is anxiety chihuahuas.

pretty shitty to act like everyone with an anxiety disorder is an anxiety chihuahua, anon. there's plenty of people in professional fields with anxiety disorders and other mental health issues, but you wouldn't know it because they're able to manage them enough to be functional. you can shittalk your frienemies without throwing other people under the bus

da but as someone with an anxiety disorder that's kind of the key point? i have never brought mine up with my job because it is managed and so it isn't a concern. obviously if it became an issue then i would mention it but otherwise there's no reason to do so.

if someone is worried enough about their anxiety disorder to feel like it might potentially be an issue then that tells me it isn't in fact being managed and i think a job has every right to be concerned about that.

people keep going on tangents about the jobs right and whatever whenever it comes to anxious people

but this whole thread started because of an anon taking a hyperbolic statement too literally that they came to wg about

it's really depressing how y'all are basically confessing that you are afraid to mention you have anxiety to your employers

I've always been upfront and have discussed my strategies for coping with my manager.

Not everyone has an anxiety disorder but plenty of people have illnesses or issues that they should be able to expect reasonable adjustments for. OP is on the wrong side of this.

da but yeah it is depressing. while it's illegal in most countries to discriminate based on health issues, including mental health, there's no protection against coincidentally being fired for on-paper other reasons when your employers find out and decide you're too much trouble to deal with. or heaven forbid you have an anxiety attack at work. describing it as a fluke incident is a million times safer than admitting to having a chronic disorder that might happen again. i would like to keep my job and not be homeless :)

why would someone mention it? i don't spill my personal life to my employer or coworkers and i don't expect them to share personal details with me either unless they choose to. if one of them takes off early for a doctor's appointment it's none of my business why if they don't feel like saying so.
