no I mean hypocritical. i’m saying it that way for a reason

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
it doesn't, and taking that whole aspect of worldbuilding out (along with several others) would make the series better. but this still comes down to whether or not you can enjoy media that has problematic elements, and if you do, if that for some reason means you approve of that element as opposed to liking the media despite it.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
have you considered that the fact that the answer to that question is "it doesnt and the story would be better if it were removed"

might be part of the judgement

that it might be how these things are handled in the text

People have brought up multiple reasons why treating a dead person is different from a live person but you just ignore it because ????

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, that's bullshit

if your playerbase is mature enough to play in a conflict-heavy environment with plenty of open conversation and/or acceptance of a randomized result if an ooc conclusion couldn't be reached, it's possible. for the most part players in this game were able to settle their own pvps for months without too much issue. the problem here was the poor modding and the clear and apparent quix-ness of it all, which would have happened regardless of whether or not it was a faction game

and i know this is a few anons up but why is cdc even being brought up when faction games are being discussed that wasn't even a faction game

Re: da

no one is talking about your strawman

can you now understand why it looks weird or does it need to be explained that endorsing the works of racists and white supremacists who also put their ideologies into their work is also, idk, a problem?? maybe jkr isn’t the only person to have done this that we all like?

hp Lovecraft and Tolkien are dead but they also put their racism into their works, broski. stop being a hypocrite.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
no one was ever talking about another creator on Twitter but go off

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
is your problem here that the narrative condones rather than condemning the issue? if so, obviously that's shitty, but it's also not unique to this case, and still comes back to the same underlying question about whether you can enjoy media that has aspects you don't agree with.

can you provide any other popular franchises in which the author is both noisy and bigoted on twitter and also has layers of bigotry in their works

this was the comment you were replying to, broski

i'd say that you should learn to read but it's clear you can't because you're a potter fan lmao

Re: ayrt

Anon I know you hate Antis but that doesn't mean you have to go to bat for fucking JKR lmao

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
so again if you can provide me an instance of another popular and beloved franchise which is layered with bigotry and poor messaging whose creator is also a loud-and-proud bigot online, go ahead, the floor's yours

lovecraft and tolkien have been dead for like a hundred years each and are not currently trying to keep boots on marginalized people's necks. it is not comparable

"no"

would have been fine, too

lmao the best thing about those long info pages is even if you were a creative and engaged player who wanted to interact with the setting elements and do stuff with them, you'd be denied because of how hyper controlling quix is. you can use things, but ONLY in a specific way she approves of. if not, you'll be left on read or told to fuck off

this has been addressed, but for the sake of repeating it: lovecraft is dead, he can't profit, he can't talk shit (he can't talk anything), and nobody rps from the call of fucking cthulhu

Re: ayrt

I'd say at this point I judge the shit out of anyone who's ride and die for Harry Potter because there's a living author who is actively contributing to transphobic causes and spews out her bigotry everywhere, who wrote a book series that mirrors general bigoted attitudes, and instead of owning up to it go b-b-but Lovecraft (who has been dead longer than I'm alive) was a racist cunt.

Like that's a bit further than just 'a little bit problematic' at this point.

There's hundreds of books which are a little bit problematic which don't have this layer of shit, and that's not even getting into the fact the books themselves aren't that good, or the fact that most RPers are putting so much headcanon into their characters that they're halfway to OCland at this point, at least from what I can tell.

And instead of actually acknowledging the fact that you're ride and die for a series with questionable words building, bigoted details, written by a transphobic asshole, you're just trying to play it off as media that's a little bit problematic.

It's so weird to me.

You do you, but shut up about how much you love Harry Potter and actually read another book for once, I beg of you.

Re: AION TELEIOS

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they should be plot-heavy or have lots of NPC/player involvement, but it's nice to have some that are like that.

I think they came out of the fact that every game used to be some variation on city life. People got bored with that and it also became frustrating to play proactive characters in settings where they couldn't do anything but futilely try to find a way out or surrender and become apathetic. As our playerbase got older and more experienced we started to want more satisfying storytelling and opportunities for character arcs instead of just a big jar of characters to shake around and see how they interact.

Tabletop is fun, but not everyone has access to a consistent tabletop group and part of the appeal of DWRP is the ability to play fandom characters instead of OCs. It'd be nice if smaller plot-heavy games could get off the ground and last for a decent amount of time, but ime people put them on the backburner for larger games or get cold feet about apping.
