this. i work with a lot of people with phds/other higher ed degrees and surprise, a lot of them use capslock and emojis and don't always capitalize/punctuate correctly in their emails and texts.

there's absolutely zero correlation between someone's maturity/intelligence level and how they communicate in non-formal settings.

What you're missing is that there is no correlation between someone's maturity and their intelligence level. Nobody is saying they're idiots. They're using maturity as a shorthand for "doesn't communicate entirely in screams."
