i googled this because it seemed too crazy, but actually it was first referenced in book 3, apparently

there's a lot of people (from google results and twitter) saying "maybe she just didn't know," but at some point you have to just accept that she really was enough of a boomer idiot to just write an entire malicious stereotype into her books. it's almost certainly less "maybe she didn't know" than "maybe she doesn't think stereotypes are bad to rely on if she thinks they're correct"

yeah exactly. and like it further takes away any plausible deniability when you look at how she fell back on literally name a stereotype for every token character

seamus finnegan which bears a remarkable phonetic similarity to sinn fein just haaappens to blow things up constantly though i guess congratulations to her on restraining the urge give him the same name as the disney mouse. the unilaterally ginger weasleys just happen to be dirt poor and loud and have a ton of children. everything with cho chang. like she knew damn well what she was doing
