god me too. people can huff and puff all they want about how it's no indication of how well you write or how ~it just means you're 30~ or how you shouldn't have to change your writing style for strangers but none of that is going to stop it from setting me very ill at ease, or erase the correlation between people who use that smiley and people who tend to be tonedeaf and/or lack respect for boundaries.

It doesn't mean you're 30. At all. My 12 year old nephew keeps spamming it to me in texts. A handful of people have decided to imprint on an emoji instead of just accepting that they're weirded out by three or four people who use that emoji a lot.

it is astonishing how many people in this hobby are trying to desperately mark themselves as more mature than everyone else in this space

nothing screams 'desperately insecure' quite like shouting how much of an adult you are compared to everyone else you hang out with
