anon, you are absolutely right about the fundamental issue being a general willingness to attack the "other," which is baked broadly into the culture. I get being frustrated about the big picture being overlooked - I get angry about that a lot. however, what you yourself are overlooking is that stereotypes absolutely play a part in the general culture of othering (and thus being willing to commit violence against the "other"). just because something is a smaller scale part of the issue doesn't mean it shouldn't be called out when we see it.

additionally, this thread in particular comes across as you telling jews that if they feel hurt or unsafe because people they are directly connected to are blithely ignoring or accepting the stereotypes in hp are overreacting or focusing on the wrong thing. when just last week two men were shot for being jewish, and this week neonazis are openly protesting a broadway show about a jewish man who was lynched by the kkk saying the lynchers were right, you can see how this may strike a nerve with those of us who are jewish.

keep up the good fight anon, but take the l on this one
