nah i'm good. the fact that it's openly discouraged means people are either uncomfortable with it themselves or at least respect others around them who might be and are courteous enough to keep it contained to private, opt-in rp only.

There is definitely a tone of "how DARE you suggest it's wrong to say transness makes someone more interesting" and a level of entitlement when people act like someone's not as evolved about their own experience as a trans person and should get out of the way so someone can slap top surgery scars on a cis male character in a game to make themselves feel good.

pretty much this, tbh. rule 63, a/b/o, crau, and trans au should all fall under the same umbrella. some games allow stuff like that, and power to them. if you allow a rule 63 or a canon au, then i'd say a trans au would fit in well in a game like that.

outside of that, i really don't want to be playing winter soldier in a game and find out that the cap that joined is trans steve and now i have to figure out how they expect me to play with used to be a girl or is actually a butchfemme or w/e they're going with. trans aus are perfectly fine in memes, psls, and games that are open with aus. outside of that, you are putting your au on your potential cast and not all of them want to play that. just like not all of them want to play with craus that have hivemind powers from four games ago.

it's not a conspiracy when of the only two people this has ever happened to, one of them admitted outright they were trying to distance themselves from their wank and the other continues to identify as male everywhere else but dw. hth

+1 with the added note though I still don't think they should be allowed in most games unless the game specifically allows AU versions of characters. Sure it doesn't make any difference for some, but it can vastly change how your castmates backstories work for others and they didn't necessarily sign up for that.

once had a character from a setting where nobody had ever been discriminated against for their sexuality or gender say they didn't personally see the point in it and why, hoping to get some interesting discussion going about characters' experiences and for this character to learn why others did think it mattered. nope. character just gets called bigoted for not having a 21st century us liberal worldview. if you want to do anything other than hold a standard pride parade in your fantasy/horror/otherwise spooky jamjar you are Wrong.

yeah, rpvents getting suspended is what prompted me looking into it. it was always a sort of toothless place, i never personally saw any harassment or even real drama apart from the occasional vaguepost followed by ten comments of "pm me!"

weird that it would be suspended after all this time. since any "real" bullying seems to be kept to actual ij anoncomms (which are over here on dw) i guess squeaky did what they could and shut down the only place it happens on the ij server. i'm curious if they've reached out to dw staff about doing something? since denise won't even do anything about us, i doubt anonys has anything to worry about.

There are so many levels to this clusterfuck. The appalling site security on IJ, for one, which is more galling to me than the fact that they've just not had an abuse team for years.

But what also surprises me is how much of an overreach this feels like, esp if you find the email the rpvents mod was sent. Complaining about Denise hating WG has been a meme for a long time, but she wouldn't even go that far.
