I understand why they are doing it the way they are but I feel like it significantly cuts off potential new players from joining all together and that is massively disappointing. I can see future cast-mates from animes or shows having a chance if they post in the TDM but RIP to those with obscure canon characters or even OCS. You can kiss that dream goodbye then IG.

i don’t really understand where this certainty is coming from. i’m in the game with a character from an obscure canon, and i have never had any issue with lack of interest. i have also noticed that ocs seem to get plenty of interest and play as well. i know it’s a little too much to expect of wg, but maybe people should just tdm and see how things go rather than doomsaying. if you have a good time on the tdm and other people have a good time threading with you, why wouldn’t they extend an invite if they want to continue with the cr in the game?

and, if what all you’re saying is true and the next tdm is a stagnant ghost town, then you can come back here and bitch with actual reason

i feel like ppl are allowed to bitch regardless when the most popular game on Dreamwidth currently has decided to become invite only??? it's a shitty decision

you're a fucking idiot and you're not entitled to jack shit, actually

"weh weh how dare the mods not be unlimited fun machines putting out massive uncompensated effort for every whinging neet drowning in fomo"

being the most popular game on dreamwidth is the problem. they are trying to manage their playerbase and workload. suck it up and get a new hobby if you don't like it.

the more entitled people act, the more they justify the decision so idk maybe they should get some self awareness

+1 people like that anon are literally the fucking problem

man, i think going invite-only is a bad decision because it is unlikely to address their main problem at this point, but i'm now glad they're doing it just to keep you out, in particular.

and this hobby discriminates against people that don’t want to do their tags or rp, wtf

in the game and obscure canon player chiming in too

if anything, playing from an obscure canon has people more INTERESTED in wanting to know more about my blorbo

The more I see these whiners the happier I am with this decision actually, it’ll scare away the weh weh womenbabies

Re: GOLDEN PEACOCK

yeah, these are my thoughts. people are naturally going to want to extend their invites either to friends, to castmates, or to characters they recognize and want to play with, so by default there are going to be fewer invites by number to go around to anyone who isn't one of the above.

it isn't that people aren't going to enjoy playing with obscure canon characters or ocs on the tdm, it's just that when it comes down to giving out their invites, they're much less likely to pick those over a character they know and want.

a player can apparently only pick one prospective player/character to invite. that might end up being closer to "one per app period" than "one forever," but it's still a much stricter limit than picking who to tag on the tfm, which is limited only by how much free time you personally have.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2024-05-28 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
exactly. if someone only has one invite to give out and it comes down to a choice between a castmate/a character from a canon they're familiar with or a character from an obscure canon, even if they're tagging with the character from the obscure canon on the tdm and having a good time they're still far more likely to pick the castmate or the character from the canon they know to give their invite to, so ocs and characters from obscure canons are inevitably going to be at a disadvantage for that reason.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2024-05-28 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, not really. Some people don’t want castmates or prefer crosscanon.

But whatever, go find greener pastures then. No one owes you anything.

it would be really cool if this inspired y'all to quit bitching and start games

It won’t

Re: +1

tbh if you go in any tdm with this attitude, i wouldn't give you an invite even if i had one. you sound exhausting to deal with and i'd rather invite someone who wants to write than someone who's already written me off.

i'm neither in the game nor looking to join and i'm glad the whiners in this thread are getting chased off. all of you sound annoying as hell on flatview.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2024-05-29 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
i don't want more castmates and i don't even tag some characters from canons i recognize because i'm not into them. i had characters in mind from the last round to invite that were from canons i do not recognize because they were fun to tag, which is the most important thing.

maybe consider that the main issue is your own mindset?

Yes, this would be the point. The idea is to heavily limit newcomers to keep a game's player and character count from becoming so big the mods get overwhelmed. If you know why they're doing it you wouldn't be surprised it's going to keep new people out. The entire point is to do that.

Basically they need to keep some people out to survive. Those people may never get a chance to play there. Unfortunately they may have gotten the short straw but it's sometimes necessary for a game to survive.

I feel like it significantly cuts off potential new players from joining all together and that is massively disappointing.

whether you think it's disappointing doesn't matter, as always with invite-only games

it's a mod decision for mod reasons, people who don't have a shot at invites have plenty of other games to join
