genuinely asking: have you been around for the release of a dragon age game before? the cinematic trailers have always been like this (kind of ugly, weirdly written, & not representative of the actual game at release). i'm surprised people are surprised

Da here but I have been here since the first. Usually the trailers look different, I'll give you that, but never this bad. Hell in some cases they looked BETTER than the release.

This looks like mobile game quality.

i agree that da trailers have never been good but this was a different order of magnitude imo, and combined with the news that it was intended to be live-service relatively recently, i think everyone's disappointment is warranted

we'll see what happens tomorrow but if the gameplay looks like a dragon age and not a half-assed blizzard game i'll be shocked

i thought it was public knowledge that it was intended to be live service mmo style basically until anthem bombed for a while now. sorry anthem but thank fuck you took that bullet for us.

my b i didn't mean recent news, i meant that the shift back to single-player was recent in game development time

they'd have had a hell of a project yanking the boat around to a good single-player in that amount of time even without the layoffs, and then the layoffs happened

all i'm saying is that if it really is shit, that would be the least surprising outcome

They had the basis for a singleplayer game built up initially before ea switched it to a live service, and by all accounts the new version being showcased now is aligned with the tone and style of the original cancelled version (heist/noir overtones, smaller cast of characters)

this is the exact same thing that happened with the sims 4. they developed it with live service in mind but the dumpster fire of the new simcity flop meant they had to quickly pivot. the game came out underbaked and is still pretty divisive to this day - the only reason it’s still selling gangbangers is because there is no other game like it.

i can’t believe EA didn’t learn a single thing ten years later.
