this is also how some of the mods of my old game knew when some players were tagging from home via work/transit. they knew their home ip, but sometimes the tags would come in from others and it was from work/on the way home.

why did the mods care about this, that's strange

+1

red flag honestly

some mods care about weird shit. i was a helper for a mod team who were convinced that someone using a vpn was a wanker with no proof to that but ample proof to them being from one of the countries where it's a lot more common to use vpns for browsing and everything.

hey anon

parent up real quick

ayrt's scenario goes a little beyond "theyre using a vpn they must be a wanker"

because some of the old mods at some of my old games were problematic. they'd make burn chats to bitch about players and some of those bitchings amounted to 'they clearly can tag more if they have a 2 hour commute and i can see they have wifi via their ip for travel' or trying to pull some borderline detective bullshit over someone saying they couldn't tag/had to take a hiatus because they were on vacation/out of town and 'but their ip!!!!'

it was a lot.

name and shame anon

i would refuse to play in any future game they mod on principle

afaik, they're out of the rp scene, or at least the modding scene. i'd be more inclined to burnbook them if they weren't, but yeah, it happened in a lot of earlier to the move from lj to dw games, so i doubt i'm the only one with stories of overinvested mods dragging people trying to ask for a hiatus because of some bullshit.
