there's no reason a dwrp mod journal needs to be accessible when the accessibility tools are built into dreamwidth itself. if you have issues with layouts then you use the option to turn them off. that's literally what they're for.

i think "there's no reason to be accessible" is also a bad take. shrug

+1 the onus should not be on the viewer to find work arounds when the creator could just NOT

+1

as a prospective player, if the first things i look at when considering a game all require me to jump through unnecessary extra hoops to even view, what is gonna motivate me to bother?

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
the point is that it IS accessible if you use the accessibility tools provided by dreamwidth

this is like someone demanding that people stop using pictures in their posts because they use a screen reader and also refuse to read alt text. if you're not willing to use the tools you've been given to curate your experience and improve your life, then why should everyone else cater to you?

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
that isn't the point of accessibility and inclusivity actually. people who give a shit about this think of these things at the time of design

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
you're basically saying "stairs are accessible to wheelchair users if they just install their own ramp"

web accessibility isn't just about "mobile-friendly", it has to be legible even without images (yes, for e-readers and tts tech) and without going through extra steps (again, because most tts devices don't exactly have a wealth of navigational functions that allow you to finagle website settings)

if i have to do 10 other different things to make your layout accessible, it's not accessible at all is it

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
except this is more like wheelchair ramps at a public library vs someone's private home that they may not need to modify for their own needs

if bakerstreet suddenly became inaccessible and you needed to take a bunch of extra steps to read it on mobile, yeah that would probably be a valid complaint

presumably if people who were invited to this private space they would have brought up accessibility concerns to the mod, the friend who invited them, rather than run to wg about it

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
it's fine to just say you don't give a shit

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't, in fact, care about the accessibility of fully private spaces I'm not part of. Hope that helps.

Re: da

i am again asking you to leave saltburn alone so those people stay there and stop apping into other games

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
you're right anon

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
boo hoo, who cares, you're not apping or invited to the game anyway

this is the same "i should be able to access and apply to every single game and they should all roll out the red carpet for me" entitlement that's stinking up dwrp and the reason why 90% of games are private and invite only these days

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
i hope you get one or more limbs amputated

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe try putting some of that aggression you have about gpsl comm layouts towards literally anything else that actually matters.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
having strong opinions about accessibility is not entitlement. quite the opposite. you're basically lifting up the middle finger to everyone you didn't know needed the accommodations and now they're never going to speak up

rancid

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
and you're wishing physical disability on people as a punishment/burden

maybe reassess???

upon reflection, i think the saltburn mods are doing the layout right, since it's selecting you out of the potential player pool

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
once again wg proves invite only games are working as intended

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Setting aside that this is a private game, the gap between building an expensive wheelchair ramp and using pre-existing site tools on dreamwidth to view things in your own layout is so wide you could compare it to a Florida sinkhole. TOUCH GRASS.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2024-06-14 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
no anon making people click the view in your own layout or view in light mode option on the nav bar is literally the same as saying you want disabled people to die.

damn you're right, I forgot they went through this exact same thing with another game, including accusations of ableism too. Noctium I think?
