i would say that the later expansions give more personality to player choices, since you’ll have generic Heroic response, humorous jokester response, gritty dark hero response, and then Heroic Mime. i would say those are pretty much the personalities that have any actual in game basis, but even i think that the justification is paper thin.

+1 you can also extrapolate something from how npcs react to the wol, since they act the same no matter what headcanon you have. combined with what you said about later expansions, you could argue that a wol has enough of a personality to get in, but just barely. i wouldn't allow then myself if i was a mod, but it's not my game.

da and yeah, no matter what dialogue choices you make there are definitely base personality traits that the wol has because like you said, you can draw on how the npcs react to them. you can make dialogue choices but they're not 100% a blank slate.

this is why edgelord wols are so obnoxious. yeah yeah, you can put them in as much black leather and have them kill as many gods as you want, but if they're a blatant psychopath to everyone they meet then the npcs wouldn't be as friendly as they are (well, except for zenos, but that's zenos).
