having an info post won't actually get you more tags, it will just help inform the people who would have tagged you anyway.

speak for yourself. there are tons of times i'll be on the fence about tagging a stranger's character on a meme, and whether they have any info in the journal ends up being the deciding factor. no info, i move on

esp if it's a castnate stating what their ships are in there from the get-go. love not having to do any "would you be into this pairing" song and dance before starting

if you can't take five minutes to write up even the most barebones of ship prefs/permissions/kinks, why should i waste my time tagging you and trying to figure out what you're interested in?

yeah but my point is that having the info post in and of itself isn't what sparked your interest enough to make you stop and consider the character at all. you liked the look of the character (whether bc of the canon, character pick, username, icon, whatever) first, enough to check out their info post.

and if i'm not seeing an info post, i'm still moving right along.

i'm saying this because people like to act as if info posts are end-all-be-all but reality is, you still have to play from a canon with mass appeal or a considerable niche one, or you've got to have a juicy idea pillaring your oc. info posts can make the deciding factor between you and the next guy playing Blorbo, but they won't do the whole job of getting you more tags and it feels weird to me we authoritatively prescribe them as the savior of dwrp here and on rpa. but hey, that's why i'm posting this under the unpopular opinion thread, i get plenty of you feel differently.

personally if a journal doesn't have an info post i might take a swing at tagging them just to see what happens. but if it has an info post that tells me they don't like the ship or is just badly written with bad takes on the character i won't tag them. so in my case having an info post is more likely to result in them not getting a tag compared to the times that they do! which is how it's supposed to work i think.

wrong, sorry. if your info post isn't getting you more bites, there's something going on with it. there's a surprising number of journals out there with perfunctory permissions posts that don't actually say anything useful ("i'm fine with anything" is not useful)

i'm not tagging an oc without a decent info post or top-level
