considering how much literal screaming and hairpulling i see online and in person over people stamping their feet and claiming that they deserve to have a pet/child because 'poor people deserve things too' says otherwise.

i'm a poor person. i live in a shit hole. i would love to get a cat because i love cats and i miss them and i'm lonely and have no real irl friends or social circle. but i'm also an adult and responsible enough to know i don't live in a place that's really good for a pet, i don't have the money to feed myself and a pet, and i certainly don't have money for a vet if anything happens. so as much as i'd love a pet, i acknowledge i'm not in a position to get one.

i just had to deal with an eviction in my building where some cracky meth head had paid a pet deposit for one cat, gave that cat to someone else in the building (unneutered male) and brought in a mother cat with two kittens. the cats were starving and the mother cat wound up with an infected milk duct and she had to surrender the cat to the spca to get the pet seen to medically, but she still has the kittens, who are also not neutered. and when i brought up in passing that maybe she should be more concerned over her health and a place to live than starting up a kitten farm, i got promptly told to go fuck myself because 'i need something for myself too and i can have a pet if i want'.

people who have pets they shouldn't have are in the same venn diagram as dog owners that refuse to use a leash and expect everyone to be okay with their dog biting them because they're an esa and they're 'in training'. they're selfish and unempathetic.
