from someone else who plays mostly dudes: i think part of the frustration is when people brand female characters as uninteresting/annoying/bitchy/unlikeable for the exact same character traits that they drool over for male characters, which IS undeniably a fandom problem

if character A is manipulative, annoying, and rude, it's telling when you bash character B for those same things just because she has a vagina, lol, and it's really transparent when you say "there are no good female characters, take for example Bitchy McMurder Vanessa. now if you'll excuse me i have tags for Bitchy McMurder Jacob to do"

i've never seen this in dwrp. in this hobby it seems like it's more likely people will say things like "this female character is amazing, i love women!" and then somehow never play her. while also bitching about how female characters never get tags and how sexist dwrp is lol.

Or my fave /s, when I've played the M side of M/F ships and the F player goes on about how much better F/F ships are and how incredibly gay their lady character is, when they're the ones that approached me for shipping. I don't get it, why ship with my dude characters if they prefer F/F? Which they never actually play. And they don't seem to understand why I lose interest in our ships after months of hearing that stuff and them "playfully" trashing my male characters and complaining about wanting more women characters to tag them (that they'll just flake on).

sounds like you attract performative femmeshippers. the ones i know shit on male characters and body shame real men because they think it gives them more ~bi/lesbian cred~ or something. some are married to cis dudes by their own admission and i feel bad for their husbands, whose bodies they apparently find repulsive.

for me sometimes it's that i find certain traits more interesting in characters of one gender than the other. like, i'm so over stoic, aloof male characters because there are five million of them and i just find them boring now. but stoic, aloof female characters? give me more of that. same with soft, nurturing female characters. boring, they're a dime a dozen, but i eat up soft, nurturing male characters because you see those so much more rarely.
