I like characters that start out as cliches but turn out to have a lot more depth to them. I also like the fact that in DR, half the characters do that and half of them are basically just cliches, but it's kinda impossible to tell which is which until something happens. I also like that, as above anon said, it doesn't shy away from death and having characters stay dead, permanently; it also has a decent track record of portraying kids reacting to death and murder in semi-realistic ways, and people who are otherwise decent making really horrible decisions when pushed to the breaking point.

Basically, I think it's neat.
