Having a character deeply involved in a plot that you need details about before you can do anything else with it, but the person running it sits on it for months and leaves you stranded.
Have you contacted them directly and asked for more details? If you haven't, there's a chance they're operating under the assumption that you know where you're going.
Fuck I know what you mean anon. I was in a smaller scale game years ago and a player convinced me to participate in a plot she was running saying it would take 2 weeks ooc to wrap up.
It ended up taking 2 months and, because she wouldn't tell me anything, it left me barely able to play my character. shit sucked
Character X is interesting, well-written, and tags out a lot. They're also very close with Character Y, often a major castmate or an in-game ship.
Character Y may or may not be bad in general, but they do next to nothing that's not threading with X or threading with a few others about things that end up being about X. So, anyone who wants substantial CR with X gets to deal with Y and with being turned into window-dressing for their drama.
The worst thing is that sometimes it seems like X-type outgoing characters naturally attract Y-type, migraine-inducing clingers-on.
Most jamjars are going to put characters in situations where they act OOC because they've suddenly been ripped away from their family and friends and their job and the entire structure of their universe, and at some jamjars, characters are never able to settle back into their "normal" routine.
Bonus points if you ask for a brief summary of what happened to make them change into who they are now and they go, "you know... stuff..." and don't offer anything other than a setting description.
I play a character that canonly introduces themselves as only their last name to people, though I tend to refer to them as their first name in narration. Often, within the same conversation, the other character will start calling them by their first name even though they haven't indicated in any way that they're okay with that.
It's rude and annoying in network conversations where their name is displayed in full, and just flat-out infomodding in face to face conversations where my character never said their first name. I usually go back and check what a character introduced themself as (or if they introduced themself in the first place) before I have my character say a name outright, I wish other people would do the same.
this is my biggest pet peeve ever. only one person calls her by her first name in canon and they do that to TROLL her. so it bothers me more when people start doing it in games.
I have the reverse problem too. My character never gave a last name in canon or in game, but since I sometimes refer to him with a common fanon one oocly, someone I thread with picked up on it and uses it whenever their character introduces him or talks about him to others. No point in retconning now but wow it still grinds my gears.
Well, if they introduce themselves with a full name, most characters from a modern western culture (ie most live action and book characters in RP right now) would use the first name by default.
Just because my character says something doesn't mean that it's the gospel truth, that it reflects my personal opinion or that it's something that you as a player can just assume that this is a fact that goes for the entire game. Especially when there is actual ooc information from the mods that contradicts parts of what he just said! And even if there weren't, he could still be lying, or he could be wrong, or he could even have been trolling.
So no, dear other player, I did not mislead you or lie to you. My character presented his assumptions of the situation, and while he might have felt rather secure in them he's also from another world and may therefor (therefore?) be in the wrong. It's not my fault if you didn't take this into account or couldn't be bothered to check things for sure before making an ass of yourself.
If we're just going to handwave our characters ever having conversations or seeing each other half the time...why are we even bothering to have them in any sort of relationship?
Oh, you were looking to make AC the very last day? Just needed one more thread?
Joke's on you, you forgot I'm in a different timezone and wouldn't even /start/ tagging until it's morning where you are. Screw your lazy squatting ass.
Petty as fuck because I know people can't read my mind and I know there are players who'd kill to have my problem, but...getting an anon gift of paid time for a character I'm planning to drop. I know I'm not obliged to keep the character in the game just so that paid time doesn't go to waste, but I wish they gave it to someone who asked for it and would use it. Or at least gave me dw points so that I could use them on another character I do plan to keep in the game.
That it was anon and unexpected makes it a nice gesture but it's frustrating because I don't know whom to thank for their generosity and pay them back.
If you volunteer your character for an IC commitment that's important to the game's plot or setting, it is the height of assholery to then blatantly ignore it in favor of dicking around more with your already established CR. Not only does it screw over the people whose characters are stuck waiting on you IC, it sends all of them the message that you don't give a shit about it OOC.
Everyone has time constraints on how much they can RP. Not willing to prioritize the new stuff over your usual fun within those constraints?
