Oh man, ngl--I considered Gen at first but decided not to app him for the very same reason. There is no way I could pull off a character that's SO manipulative and tricky and so, so good at wrapping people around his finger. Irene, too, which is why I didn't even really consider her.
Sophos, on the other hand...the only time he's really all that tricky is near the end of Conspiracy of Kings IIRC, and even then he's being influenced by Gen and Irene to some degree, so I feel like I'm less likely to screw him up. Plus I tend to play characters with sweet dispositions and low self-esteem so he just feels like a more natural fit for me.
But yeah, would love to play Gen or see him around but I have the same misgivings you do. :( Anyone that could pull him off, though, would have my undying affection.
