Neither of the mods she was busy kissing the asses of are mods anymore.

No, she'll apply for mod and when she's rejected and none of the people who get in are people susceptible to ass-licking, she'll drop.

I've been hoping she'll just drop for months. Maybe this will actually push her to it, she's already whining about not having fun on plurk.

"can I do something interesting and creative with this plot?" "no"

mods should be able to roll with characters doing unexpected things otherwise what's the point?

Re: ATARAXION

Everyone gets their cool unexpected idea and there's nothing left for the rest of the game. This plot is a lot smaller than people are realizing, I don't blame the mods for trying to keep people within guidelines so that everyone gets a shot at being involved.

My character doesn't have any extra powers or strength and when everyone was talking on plurk I was worried if they could still take part in this.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
it's got nothing to do with powers and strength and everytihng to do with having a bit of creativity. There's no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to participate if the mods are capable of rolling with the punches instead of forcing everyone onto the same rails for the entire event.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
The link makes the cascade of nos more obvious, but it looks like a lot of the nos had to do with players wanting to let a small group have exceptions in the schedule (to sneak onto the pirate ship ahead of the end of the plot). I think the mods want to preserve the integrity of the attack, make it feel like a real threat, and allow it to play out on schedule. They're not out to nix your ideas for the fun of it.

I have opinions about the plot, but I don't want to undermine the mods. They're shorthanded. Give them a break.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
that's exactly my problem. they're refusing any idea that might not have it play out exactly as their schedule requires. how can it feel like a real threat if there's a schedule to it? there's nothing interesting to do, there's no sense of being able to actually affect anything in the game. whatever we do, there WILL be a fight at the end. there WILL be someone who sneaks into med bay and they WILL be found out. if they want to run a plot involving characters interacting with other characters then they need to give players freedom to have their characters react to it.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Then you probably wouldn't get a pirates plot at all. It's cool you've got all these ideas on how they should be letting the players run free, but have you actually thought about how they could do that and still have the event run through smoothly while making it fair to everyone? This isn't a random throw monster NPCs at the players event. It needs structure.

This. I don't think they can allow for much more freedom without losing the plot of the event and making it a random free-for-all that would be even less satisfactory. They also have the right to represent the pirates the way they have in mind, what kinds of weapons and security they have.

most of how players are having their characters react to it is KILL ALL THE PIRATES so there aren't actually that many points towards creativity right there

You say a bit of creativity like it automatically makes an idea good or not stupid. Just play with the pirates like the rest of us and stop getting butthurt that your super sparkly idea didn't get the all clear from the mods.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I really disagree with the idea to sign up to opt in for this exact reason. I like to think enough faith can be put in the players that we don't have to micromanage things to the nth degree.

ICly nobody's going to go through and count kills, are they?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
http://ataraxionooc.dreamwidth.org/346243.html

There are approximately 60 pirates invading the Tranquility's halls, and we currently have around 256 in-game characters. A discrepancy would occur should every character claim to have killed even just one pirate each-- which doesn't mean we're looking to go through and allocate pirate kills, or micromanage who does what to which pirate; just asking that everyone keep the damage within reason and think of your fellow players, even if that means finding an IC excuse as to why characters don't just take all the pirates out themselves.

And the way that's phrased makes it seem more like they want to know who they can't threadjack with an npc.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
since when does face to face mean threadjack?
